Hmm not necessarily. Regardless of what the go is with Parker's money, it doesn't always pay to wait.No benefit to him to sign now.
Unless with Parker off the books, there is more for him.
If we do this our whole recruiting team should be fired. Ridiculous unders when we hold the aces, lets sell an ace for a packet of used Twisties. Have we borrowed the Eagles recruiters or something? They would be the only one that's worse if that goes through.
Spoiler alert: they had us taking Jonty Faull and Christian Moraes
I think you're over reacting.
Our pick will be 22, what is the worst their future 1st could be next year? Then we get 33, which probably slides to 35 this year for a future pick in the late 50's.
Think of it as an 13 pick downgrade for a future 1st.
Either way, it feels fair-ish to me and if they use our pick on Hynes, I'm sure you'll be very content
Taj hotton get to our first pick?
If another team calls his name out, you have to take him. Otherwise rookie him.Personally, I don't feel committed to taking Cochrane (other than as a rookie). There may well be other players available with our last pick that we would prefer. How would others feel if we took a different player with our last pick and another team took Cochrane?
With all due respect we are actually in dire need of kids who know how to play football and NOT just run fast or jump high. A lack of speed or athleticism has not hurt us once in any of our grand final demolitions, but our lack of players who can read the play? Pick a ground ball up? Find a free target in congestion? Anticipate an opponent's move? That's cost us. Badly. If another team calls his name out, you have to take him. Otherwise rookie him.
To get invited to the AFL combine, you have to be nominated by 3 clubs (AFAIK). Other clubs noticed him.
I watched his first champs game. He was rubbish. All at sea. Then I watched his second game. He made mistakes, but you could see why clubs nominated him. His acceleration stood out.
This kid was kicking 40m flat drop punt passes on his left foot at 12. There were very few kids I knew growing up who could do that. All the players I knew who could do this, played in the AFL.
He's not really a footballer. They didn't really teach him how to play football at the academy. They played him in a whole heap of positions, seemingly to win games of footy. He's 6'6 or thereabouts, with a slight frame. He has no idea how to use his body in a marking contest. So the options are, build his frame and play him as a KPD in the twos and see if he has an appetite to dominate KPF's, or play him as a line breaking outside HBF or winger. Just settle him in a position and see what he can do.
You can teach a kid to play football, but you can't teach a kid run faster and jump higher. He has something most other players will never have. That's why you have to take him.
