Teams are not trading out and around the first round, they just aren't. Maybe something in the later part of the first round, but these trades for pick 2 and or the saints picks were optimistic to say the least. I won't be shocked if no trades occur on day 1 well except ones for the Lions (points and they are later shuffling of picks)
Richmond GWS are all looking at methods to reduce picks
STK, ESS, GCS, NM, WCE are all interested in using F1s to potentially get back into the draft. With 5 teams having multiple first rounders it is quite possible we see multiple trades on night 1 especially as some teams don't enter the draft till very late without or without considering bid matching teams

Again, clubs are not interested in trading. Future 1's are not worth as much as you think and before you use some rubbish points indicator, they are not worth that much this year (a number of reasons but mainly next year is a worse draft that is compromised). If there are trades it will be 14+ in the first round, no f1 will get higher than that. North offered their f1 for pick 13 and was refused, that's the going rate. Only ones that are realistic getting into the late first round are Essendon and NM. St Kilda aren't trading their f1 not a chance on earth.

Richmond will send a late first rounder to next year but it won't be before pick 18. One of their 20, 23, 24 will go till next year.

Yep your pretty much right. Only trade in the natural top 14 i could see is STK #8 for GWS #15 and #21. Other than that it will be F1s from Essendon GCS NM to try and get into the back end of the first round.

Getting back to the original point, that will still through curveballs into the Phantom draft by Twomey but i think we can take stock with the positions he has us drafting from in that of a KPF and small forward

If the draft goes as expected doubt GWS are remotely interested, can't see why you'd trade up to get Tahru or Berry when they sit pretty and get Hotton plus whoever they want. If Tahru goes earlier then these offers will come in, but he won't, think the top 7 including Aschroft is pretty much set in. Then the next tier starts at 8 to 30, and every club would rate these differently.

The Essendon and North f1's are the ones to keep an eye on, how early can they get in, it's why and people laughed at me when I said our first pick would go close to getting one of these, probably still wouldn't do it but its tempting would prefer Essendon's they are bottom 2 next year

How do people rate Kevin 'Shifter' Sheehan as a judge of prospective footy players? Obviously better than most but how much attention would you pay where his draft ratings vary with the consensus elsewhere?

I had a quick squiz through his top 40 players (unranked): https://www.afl.com.au/news/1255450/kevin-sheehans-2024-telstra-afl-draft-top-40-prospects. The players he includes in his top 40 which are not consensus top 40 are:

Will Hayes
Sam Davidson
Hugh Boxshall
Logan Smith

None of these names are surprising (generally rated in the 40s) but probably Will Hayes is the biggest bolter- he's your quintessential skinny outside flanker.

Boxshall (athletic, 187 cm mid) and Davidson (mature age 190 cm leading forward who won the Fothergill medal (VFL Rising Star equivalent)) are players I'd be happy to take with our 3rd pick (depending on who else is available). Davidson could be a great alternative to a player like Davis (who is widely rated higher) - lower ceiling, higher floor and, as a mature ager, ready to go. He's also an alternative to Josh Murphy, and a better bet. I prefer Boxshall to Ough.

By comparison, Barratt, who is another forward (194 cm) and generally rated higher, doesn't make Shifter's top 40.

Matt Whitlock/Oliver Hannaford/Sam Davidson/Luke Kennedy strikes me as an excellent draft haul. Then Cochran as a rookie. Get it done. I don't give a flying **** if our VFL team is too tall. We can recalibrate next year when half of them depart.
Sheehan has more insight into the WA kids than Twomey.

Cal on the interview this morning on the draft show. It is hardly some shock.

What it means though is North aren't trading 2- they were only considering it (fractionally) if FOS was taken at 1.

So Richmond FC haven't confirmed? It's Cal being confident. Is that right? Not having a go just clarifying. It's not 'official'.

He was very very confident, mid you hardly anything we don't know, probably the most Martin-like I guess, not that I see him in that mould personally. Least St Kilda might miss all mids and I'm here for the cry from them

Travaglia and Tauru would be a very strong haul if that is what happens.

I'd give them Mills for those two if they want.

Richmond confirmed Lalor going at 1 not that it’s any real surprise
It's funny how when we don't have a high pick in the draft, I pay absolutely no attention to the high end of the draft. This is the first I've heard of a 'Lalor' and he is gonna be the no. 1 pick!

Having said that, not sure I actually know any of the names expected to go in the top ten, except Leonardo Lombard the Great.

Not when they need mids it's not, have you seen their midfield, that is the one call I recon Cal might have wrong, think they take one of the two not both

He's a high impact FWD/mid. Actually think he's closer to a Rayner than a Martin but maybe I have being harsh there. His test will be can he be a genuine mid or is he a burst mid? There is a bit of 'potential' with this pick. Had a lot of injuries this year so there is that too. Personally even though he won't go 1, Sid Draper for me is the best talent on the board, Jagga Smith the 'safest' bet out of the top 7 (not incl Aschcroft)

Exactly how I feel! Don't watch their highlights or give two hoots where they go. I get interested when they might be there at our picks.
