Sure but we also don’t need James Bell and Jordan Foote type of cloggers though. If he’s good enough he’ll get picked if not he may be just the level below
Bell and Foote were given too long on our list, perhaps because they were both academy.

I think a one year deal for Brew is no risk. At worse, he tears it up at VFL level, helping develop the games of our young guys. At best, he plays AFL kills it and becomes the story of the year. In many ways, less risk than some skinny 18 yo who has been overlooked by 60-70 picks..........

Just screams list clogger. If that’s your objective sign him to the VFL. Better to try and hit a home run with a late pick

I read on X that Dom Brew has emailed every coach begging for an opportunity.

That's the sort of hunger we need at the club, not the soft crap that our guys dished up on GF day. He would be such a good influence, even if he didn't even get a game in firsts. I say rookie him if he's available.
The next Adam Sandler movie

It's funny how when we don't have a high pick in the draft, I pay absolutely no attention to the high end of the draft. This is the first I've heard of a 'Lalor' and he is gonna be the no. 1 pick!

Having said that, not sure I actually know any of the names expected to go in the top ten, except Leonardo Lombard the Great.

I am sceptical of a bloke with a name like Leonardo Lombard after Tyrone Leonardis lol

I wouldn't either ,doesn't suit us at all , as you know with a pick like that you have to take a Kennedy

He’s the one I would take think he falls between our picks though it’s why I want another one in the 20’s

Far from convinced happy to be wrong but wouldn’t draft him at all
I guess it's a mute point. Doubt we will take him and would be pretty surprised if anyone else does. It's not the done thing to draft a 27 yo in the AFL as the assumption is that you're not good enough if you haven't made it by then.

Tyrone Leonardis didn't like Adam Goodes.

Leonardo Lombard would declare war to defend Adam Goodes' honour, conquer the lands of those vilifying Goodes, and then paint a mural about it on the ceiling.

99 times out of 100 that assumption is correct

If we're talking about our last ND pick or a rookie pick, Dom Brew or another mature age mid is a much greater chance of helping us in the short term, than any 18 year old drafted. There's others I'd prefer, but we'd be picking for immediate impact, not for down the track (although there's younger mature agers around).

Atkins, Peatling, Durham, Newcombe all non 18 year old mids drafted to have made an impact in recent years.

True although the success rate of taking an 18 yo rookie is not much better. The reality is that by the time you get to what is essentially a pick on thr wrong side of 50, the hit rate is rather low.

We’ve taken plenty late in drafts that have hit better than taking a guy that definitely won’t make it and clog a list. Taking a swing on a small defender is more worthwhile

If you're trying to win a flag in 2025-26, then a mature ager is a better chance of helping you, which would be why I'd consider it.

Waste of a list spot, a mid season draft choice maybe. We have needs that are not 27 year olds that last 1-2 years at most and that’s at best

We are committed to him as long as the bid is not speculative and inside the top 30 or so.

Of it is, we will have to make a call.

Wish it was top 50 though but yeah you are right

Trainor is an interesting one. I think he was rated the best tall defender and a top 10 pick up for most the year. However, all the mock drafts have him sliding, to the point where he hasn't even been invited to attend the first evening. It looks like he is a good chance to be available, possibly even on our pick 22 (which will end up being 26).

With Rampe not getting younger and the question marks around our backup tall defenders, is he too good a prospect to knock back, especially given he can play forward too?

Concussion issues are the query look if the medical checks he’d be near best available but personally wouldn’t go for a KPD anyway, rather take the forward and definitely a small forward

If we take best available mid / SF at 19 (best case scenario Hotton or Murphy) then Trainor at 23, that would be an absolute steal.

Murphy Reid is no chance.
Hotton very outside chance. Hannaford I’d be happy with. I’m okay with Trainor IF the medical checks out I just don’t want have another McCartin in 2 years when we could have taken a key forward instead
