Even in the worst of teams there are players worth having. Melbourne will be looking to Spargo and Sparrow more than ever, having lost Harmes, Jordan and some are suggesting Clarry in some form or other. They did not trade in a mid. Unless a kid can jump up suddenly or they convert a Langdon etc, I'm inclined to agree that Petracca looks destined to have his most Midfield minutes ever perhaps.

Was just listening to the POD POD, starting to lean towards cutting J Macrae and adding another rookie in the forward line and just going cheap since the options aren't great, then get my mid pricer in the midfield and just go straight to a big premo like Bont.
Definitely be a point of difference - reckon Crae would be close to the most selected player

Yeah 44%, theirs always the possibility of him going back to the midfield but with Sanders coming in i don't see how he will or even get more midfield time than last year.
Plus i just don't trust bevo.

Interesting take away was that they’re still keen on Walsh despite the early bye

Personally (but I’ll admit Macrae has always been selected in my first team so I have a soft spot for him) I find it odd not to start him as a forward.

Limited options, only priced at 92 and I think he’s basically a guarantee to be the top scoring forward given the options this year outside of Flanders perhaps.

Think he’s being judged very harshly as we are used to expecting 115+ from him. All he needs is to go 95+ and he’s got F1 locked up.

You think? I don't even know if he tops last years score, Sanders is coming in and they're probably going to put him straight into the midfield, i think he gets less midtime than last year, but who knows at this point.

I think he’ll see an increase in his scoring and more midfield again if anything. With Smith missing the year even with Sanders getting some game time I don’t see it restricting him. By all reports I’ve read it sounds like he’s flying again. Remember reading somewhere last year he may have been carrying a groin injury or something all year? Could be complete BS but I’m going to back my horse. What could go wrong!

Also not sure Bevo can afford to keep up his crazy ways or he may be out of the job by the end of the year after missing finals.

I've been doing abit of Scale of Hardness for this year and im kinda wanting to fade Flanders early lmao!!
Mainly because Flanders has 2 hard matchups into a bye into another hard match up.

Obviously the scale can be different this year with a different coach.
You also need to factor in two byes. Add games at Mars and MtBarker either side of the first Bye, two games in NT again, and go to Perth twice (and Sydney twice for good measure). I know the public ethos is anyone, anywhere - but they get around Australia more times than the Leyland brothers.......🤪

hahah, we'll see once we're closer but its somehow Macrae F1 or go even cheaper in the forward line and have Adams as F1 xD

I’m sure you’re right that he is in the top few forwards but I still want him to be value. If he is number one then we’ll need him at some point but if he’s going at 90-95 we’ll get him cheaper later on.

I’m only starting him if I’m convinced he has 10 points upside. If not, there’s potentially better value at that price on other lines.

I guess it all comes back to what value we put on a trade as well.

I don’t want to be using to many trades trading sideways or for a 5-10 pt upgrade from someone going 90 to a 95. I’d rather just start that 95 player and save using that trade where I can instead focus on upgrading as many rookies/mid pricers as possible.

It will be interesting to see how this year plays out. Seeing many here mention they plan to trade out player x, y and z at round 2,3,4 etc because of the byes and sideways trade. I think many will find that a lot more difficult than it sounds when you account for injuries and form etc. Same principle applies I think to the idea of needing someone at some point, I’d rather just start him (been burnt before by this) but agree it will be close but I still see him the number 1 forward.

Agree you want value in your starting lineup but IMO not everyone needs to be a value pick when your lineup needs decent stability as well.

I think this is the best post I've seen so far in relation to the early byes. Everyone seems to be overly worried when we have the luxury of best 18 for those rounds anyway. Personally, as long as I don't have more than two players missing those rounds, I'm not overly concerned.

Playing the Nostradamus game and predicting my trades up to 6 rounds into the season Is just fraught with danger. Most years I'm lucky to work out trades one week in advance without injuries, suspensions and Bevo screwing up my plans.

Something that's also being overlooked is being able to use your bye round players to unlock the emergency loophole from your benches. This should provide further damage limitation for any bye round midpricers & premiums.
