I'd say his mind's already made up Tom. The only risk being a big Melbourne club gets in a position to take him and they throw the kitchen sink at him. He's lived in Qld and Vic. Can't see him wanting to go anywhere else but there . He's got a clear path into the M/F in our team because he's exactly what we need . Good coaching set up. Lots of young successful team mates to learn off.

It seems we're confident of him coming here. A lot can happen between now and then. So worry about it when the time comes
Love your confidence on Ashcroft. I have heard mixed things though (all third hand hearsay and rumour, so no panic). Getting Ashcroft for cheap and if Fletcher turns into a useful player would be just the thing we need.
Hearing similar, has a preference for the big Melbourne clubs.
Although early days, and if he goes 1 or 2, going to be tricky for potential club trading up for that pick. He'll certainly have some tough decisions to make later in the year.

We’re next to no chance of trading up to pick 1 or 2, unless we’re including a player we really don’t want to trade.

Was referring to a big melb club. He can say he wants to go to one of these, but that said club would need to facilitate a trade to get that pick 1 or 2. Unless he's willing to take the risk??
Doesn’t matter which club it is really.
It is near impossible to trade up to the first couple of picks in the draft.

The Ashcroft situation is just a media click bait dream. They did the same thing with Daicos last year.
Even if he was deadset on playing for a big Melbourne club he'll nominate us and he'd be foolish not to. There's nothing better to raise your stocks than playing for a contender. The people around him know that and will be looking out for his best interests.

Especially when he'd be in our best 22 THIS year if he could have been drafted. He won't just be on our list, he'll play 22 games + finals.

Tried to watch the Sandringham game but the app wasn't working for me at all today however the numbers have just gone up, Ashcroft with another lazy 36 touches, 2.1 on the scoreboard, 5 marks, 4 tackles. Should be a good reaply to watch in a few days.

It was the herald sun game which is never done live on the Nab League app

In a world where Brisbane win the flag and then get Ashcroft as the no 1 pick, will that be enough of a perfect storm to end father-son draft picks forever?
They will never take the F/S rule away.
Academies on the other hand???

We are kinda lucky he is a F/S as most Victorian teams won't dare give up that golden opportunity. See Darcy, Daicos, Davey, etc. Too many vested interests

Tsatas, Wardlaw and Ashcroft are at this stage the clear best 3 players in this years draft and will take something special as the year goes on to dethrone those 3. Lemmey could be a chance if he can stay on the park and finish the year strongly, others in that top 10 mix right now are the likes of Sheezel, Clark, Hewett, Szybkowski and perhaps Tom Scully if he can have a strong showing at champs. Jedd Busslinger and Hudson O’Keefe are other talls that could push high.

Knightmare thinks we've got another potentially draftable player.

Might be a bit of a list clean out this coming off-season, if we don’t trade anyone out.

Maybe delist one or two contracted players, such as Mathieson, and redraft them with our late national draft picks. I’m not sure if a player has one year remaining on their contract, if they stay on one year, or if they receive a two year contract that all national draftees receive.

If I was Fagan & co, I would be saying to Ashcroft - "you can either go to WA, SA or a rabble Victorian club, and waste the first 2 years of your career - or come to us and be a part of the best (learning off of Lachie Neale etc), and if you are not happy we will facilitate a trade to where ever you want to go. With adequate compensation of course. If you play like we know you can, an A grade spot from the start is well with in your capabilities.

We either get a gun, or a top 5 pick down the line.

Yes I agree #unlock the WPfTC thread.

I agree with your most likely to be delisted group.

The interesting names for me are TBerry, DevRobbo and Prior. 3 guys, who are borderline best 22 and from all reports very solid citizens, all out of contract. I don’t want to come across as a school kid trading player cards, but I wonder if their futures are tied to the Ashcroft decision.

you would think both WA clubs would come hard for ready made local players. There is potential to pick up points for possible first round matching. I guess the list managers would need to play it hard, even though they are probably like me and would prefer in other circumstances to keep them on our list.
