Interesting. I would have thought we'd be looking at talls later on, but clearly we like Unwin's weapons. Speed is something you can't teach.

And maybe this also explains why we kept Craven: we want a fast young pressure forward to develop behind Charlie.

Looks like we're starting to address the footspeed factor in terms of list balance. With Sharp gone and Mckenna likley closer to departure lounge, Unwin makes sense for us. Might even help release Wilmot or Kiddy upfield.

Wouldn't be upset with selecting Unwin with our last pick (if still available) and is also a GWW local boy which is nice.

Another player that we could look at with similar qualities is Gabriel Stumpf as we love to draft late-bloomers to the club as well as having a point of difference of being 196cm (could play 3rd tall perhaps) and this would allow players such as Rayner, Bailey or L.Ashcroft to play up field more in the midfield.

It's Christmas week for draft nuffies, not much for us Lions fans to get too excited about, although it will be interesting as to where Levi and Sam are bid on and who we take with our third selection... Gallop/Gillett/Unwin or a left field option that hasn't even been mooted as yet.

That's basically pick 2 for pick 4. Can see why it'd be rejected.
Depends if you wanted to take the same kid at 2 or 4. If he's going to be available at 4, then anything on top of that is basically free picks/points. Sure its not a heap but its still more than you get if you take the kid at 2

Would be a great result for us in terms of matching bids.

If Matt Whitlock is there for pick 27, I wonder if we'll throw our future first in for him. I know matching Annable could become difficult next year depending on points etc, but Matt looks like a perfect tall utility for our list. Richmond may not mind spreading their picks over to next year first rounders as well.

i hope not, thats a terrible trade on face value

I have seen very little of Matt Whitlock or for that matter Ty Gallop but if given a choice I'd prefer Ty, has something special about him from my uneducated viewing of highlight reels.

We'd need to bring in a future second before we can trade a future first.

Ty has that KPF aggression in spades. Could do a LOT worse than Ty at a late pick.

So if we end up with a pick left in the 40’s after the Ashcroft and Marshall bids slide a bit.
Would he be worth taking then if someone the club feel is better, is still on the board.

Conole said today he's expecting to take 4 picks at the draft maybe Day isn't coming like some expect
Latest whispers, trade talk on Gettable Draft Countdown, Day 1 Skip to 42:57 for the Conole interview
Twomey: Obviously the first 2 picks we all know. How many more do you expect to use? 1 or 2?
Conole: Yeah probably. We're going to go through the draft, it'll be 1 or 2. It will be a bit governed by who's on the board and where we see them. 1 you would think and then 2 potentially. We'll just wait and see

Maybe we might be expecting 1 of the delisted rookies in Joyce or Craven to be picked up elsewhere?

Twomey has Ashcroft and Marshall at 5 and 25
Few other interesting bits in that article:
Freo being an outside chance to bid on Marshall at #17, & the Brisbane section of Whispers after Pick 30:
Again the Lions have been busy on the points hunting front, even down to the final minutes of the pick swaps trade window, when Brisbane did a deal with Collingwood moments before the deadline to secure some more points and offload a selection that was going to be unused at the draft. The Lions have continued discussions with clubs on more pick swaps so keep an eye on that as the draft opens on Wednesday night. There's more trades to come. Expect them to use at least one more pick after bringing in Levi Ashcroft and Sam Marshall. A group of taller types is expected to come into contention later on, with Charlie Nicholls and James Barrat a chance if either is available. The likes of Charlie West and Floyd Burmeister could also be in the mix, while if they look for a smaller type then forward Rhys Unwin will be considered if available. They could also look to grab Academy prospect and key forward Ty Gallop late in proceedings. The Lions will select Sam Day as a pre-season draft selection after the delisted Gold Coast big man nominated only for the PSD.

Would be nice if that happened; only using 2,107.2 points out of our 2,475 available without needing to do any trades on the night. No idea what happens with the residual points balance if that gets formulated back into a pick with pick 58 untouched and 367.8 worth of points being left after using picks 27, 34, 42 and 43 (2018 points) and needing some of pick 49's points which are worth 287 points. Gets all messy from there but if we get what we need without going into deficit in 25, then thats an exceptional result.

From the Twomey article.
He is pretty good at the top 10.
Sometimes he changes just before the draft and that is a better guide.
If Ashcroft gets to 5 that will help greatly in securing Marshall.
Be nice to secure 2 top 20 picks say 4-5 then 18-20.

A few other players mentioned.
BRISBANE
Draft picks:
27, 34, 42, 43, 49, 58 (likely to use three or four selections)
