Far out it's going to be a weak old Melbourne Cup isn't it.

Likely to be 2 or 3 right in the market, then a lot of name your own price hacks.

Just smells like a year where the winner could be some absolute dromedary that pulls a big run out of its rear end to either pinch the cup or screw everyone's exotics (or both)
And that horse has to be Kovalica.

That is the strongest lead that she will not run. Lokks like I have been Wallered again by sugar lips. Fair enough if she not 100% but if she is and they never planned to run her why make out they were considering it.

This race now looks weaker than pre the internationals coming. Never thought I would say it but Interpretation must be a chance. He ran well last year for 6th and he has had a better preparation this year.
I have Muramasa ahead of ‘terps at the moment.

Geelong cup winner now equal fave, the one Sea King beat in the Slowbore 😂

Just been informed there's no Dalgety this year on Derby Day...

In regards to the depth of the cup this year...if it's a good track Warp Speed would have to be a chance.

Yeah the decision was made earlier this year to take the Hotham Hcp (Archer Stakes) away from Vic Derby day. The race was run a few weeks ago. To me Vic Derby day has now lost of bit of uniqueness with no more Melbourne Cup qualifying races run on the day.

Agreed. It hasn't produced serious contenders for a fair while but it generated interest for the cup OOE at least.

I think that's why it was moved...it was loving relevance....last horse to do the Hotham Hcp/Melbourne Cup double was Shocking in 2009. Agreed at least it generated interest and "last chance for horses to qualify for the Cup"

The Ebor … this year won by a horse which had won one previous race on the flat … and the second placed horse had won? you guessed it … one previous race.
How plodders who finished behind these glorified maidens can come out here and look like genuine chances in our most famous race is a total indictment on our staying ranks.

It's sad but no surprise. It's been happening for years and years. For too long Australian racing relied on the Cups King to be competitive in the Cup. With him passing away in 2015 it exposes most of our trainers (and breeding industry).

Just finished doing my study on the MC. Obviously still gotta wait for barriers, final jockey selections and extra horses and all that jazz. But yeah this one below stood out at the odds.

Muramasa

Huge run in the Geelong Cup after a torrid first 800/900m 3 and 4 wide no cover before finding a position and then picking itself up again and fighting it out for second.

Breeding of this horse is elite, Deep Impact and High Chaparral, wowsers!!!! It has never run past 2600m but no dramas there on breeding. When it did run the 2600m trip, it was at Flemington, this time last year, and it won in style beating Duke De Sessa. Watch the replay if you get a chance. Will run well on a firm track.

Ozzie Kheir purchased this horse as a yearling to win this race. Prep is a classic MC prep. Hasn’t been running in G1’s which is a worry but that has been intentional. This race has been 12 months in the planning.

If it was trained by Maher I would have been getting giddy, not sold on Busuttin and Young. $51 at the time of writing. Finishes side by side with ‘terps who he meets 1.5kg better at the MC. Yet his price blows out to $51 whilst ‘terps comes into $11. Mind boggling, this could be your blow out horse for first 4’s. Who is the jockey??

Will post final write up on the field Sundayish with a first 4.

Best week of the year, hands down. People can talk up the Everest all they want but the Melbourne Cup, weak or strong field, stops most of the country for 10mins. It is the only race that the once a year punter cares about. Favourite number, jockey silks colour, girl jockey, horse colour I don’t care just give me an inflated first 4 pool.

I'm still firmly in the corner of The Map.

Can't ignore the turn of foot she's displayed over 3000+ metres in the past, with the right run she will be in the finish. It was hardly a flashing lights run in the Geelong Cup but I think the bigger track and a bit of room to move, she's worth a bet.

Zardozi is still there as well, similarly like The Map, I don't know that rail hugging is the way to ride her.

I've been planning on having something on her for sentimental reasons, but she's been way too short (due to the golden ticket).

She's now moved out to $61/$16 and is starting to get into the sort of price I was looking for.

Can’t see much value left in the market. Overseas horses at the top of the market look way too short for mine.

The All In markets are just a piss take these days.

Onesmoothoperator $6.50
Interpretation $13

OSO half the price it was in the Geelong Cup FFS

Interpretation a decent F4 option if it was $13 the place FFS
