A lot of the boys have come from farming families, whose parents have had to make great sacrifices. Our family often shared meals in our home with some of the boarders. We sent our boy there because he was so passionate about sport and we wanted the best opportunities for him. Are we wealthy? no

Aquinas is one of the 'most affordable' of the private schools. Their mission is to enable boys to be the best man they can be.

You aren't wealthy... hmm not sure about that.

Yep, like I said plenty of great people have had their parents send them to Aq and plenty of not so great people have had their parents send them there.

I can vouch first hand that Aquinas has in the past had many social issues that have stained the school badly from high levels of racism, misogyny and bigotry.

It's widespread and definitely not just Aquinas. But people saying that Cripps is automatically a good person because he went to Aquinas doesn't mean it's so. He may well be a terrific guy or not so much but his schooling doesn't mean jack.
I was never implying he was automatically 'good', but I do like to follow the journey of boys from that school.

I mean Carlton may well win this weekend and go on to perform well this season, but based on models like the Squiggle their price to win this match and ultimately the flag, as of right now, is just insane. Shows you the idea that gambling markets are rational is a fallacy; they get led by the flow of money.

I am sure many families sacrfice much to get their kids the best schooling.

But some families had little or nothing to sacrifice so had less choices.

Luckily goverment schools are not all bad.

But they are definitly cheaper. I was glad when i began work i could afford to send my children to the school of my choose. not sure if it made a difference or not but felt like the right thing to do.

Was I rich. not in my mind. but if you ask the people i grew up with, the fact i could afford private school made me richer than them.
We all are poorer than some people, and richer than others.

The are we rich or poor debate is like the same argument over Umpires, "do they really hate OUR club". all depends on your own situation.

Luckily even Rich people can be nice....

Just a typical struggling farming family that drive late model 4WD's , have millions in assets and send their kids to prestigious private schools.
there were plenty who were not like that

one of my close friends lived in Kwinana and went to that school - he is now a doctor working in third world countries

the school tries to promote empathy and 'giving it back', and some have really taken that on board

Kwinana still had a lot of well paid people. due to the industry; BP, ALCOA, BHP etc wasnt until probably 1980s that those families starting moving out. to Melvile, Leeming etc. So they could afford to break the cycle and send their children to private schools.

100 % . While education is important most success comes from the positive family environment which in turn
creates personal drive. I know plenty of blokes that were educated in private schools and they are living in poverty due
to family issues.
