Rozee is a clear leader on the track from what I've seen

It’s what I’ve heard too but doesn’t suit the narrative on here.

Burton when fit is easily in our best twenty three. Williams and Sinn would have to improve a fair bit.

I prefer Sinn on a wing too.

And I’m still a bit intrigued Burgoyne hasn’t been training more in defence after literally getting a perfect ten coaches votes in defence in our only winning final.

Imo Burgoyne is a victim of being able to play the wing position with some success. Most of our players get lost there including Bergman. But Burgoyne can be more influential in defence as he's a great reader of the play. Has the potential to be a star as he showed in the Hawks final.

I don't have any agenda. I would have preferred Butters as the captain but as pointed out we are not privy to how the players interact off field. Some players also don't want to be captain & we are not privy to that either.

Both players train hard from my observations. But I would like to see Rozee talk a bit tougher & publicly demand performance from his teammates. This of course means he has to perform onfield at a consistently high level.

It was obvious Captaincy duties had an adverse effect on his on field performance in 2024 but I expect him to have a much better 2025. As much as I thought Selwood was a cheat he was a great leader.

I think it’s more of a body issue with him. At his age if he hasn’t got it right he probably never will but a strong pre season without injuries and I still think he has enough talent.

I actually thought he wasn’t as bad as many thought, and finished off the season better than most.

I think was more of a body issue when he started at the club. Now it's more of an attitude issue

If he wants to be recognised as a leader then he needs to lead us somewhere when it counts.

It might be harsh but welcome to Port Adelaide.

Burton's best is absolutely elite and he was one of our best players up until a few years ago. He's gone backwards every season and just about every game for the last couple of years, which is awful when it should have been the time he was coming in to his prime. Its almost looked like footy isn't even his main focus in life.

If he can get back to where he was he is undroppable, if he continues on his current path he is delistable. For everyone's sake I hope he can turn it around.

Don't know whether true but I've been hearing that Bergman potentially playing more on ball midfield and SPP too but believe its on a wing for him. Quite possible Mead to be more of a depth player or SUB if that's needed. Quite possibly Rozee to be the hybrid fwd/midfield with more time forward.

If this is the case, it seems like that want more power in the midfield.

I think Bergman could make a fantastic midfielder especially paired with the Hornet however, it would leave us a bit dry down back.

I was hoping to see more of Mead get a run in the midfield if Drew missed some games early to do what he can do.

Burton is basically a good depth player at this point and that's fine because you need them.
That's the way I see it.

An amazing kick but a soft, unaccountable defender, especially one on one.

I would prefer the young guys mold the backline together along with Aliir.

Bergman, Aliir, Evans
Jones, Zerk-Thatcher, Farrell

Sinn off the bench

That's a very accountable back 7, something we haven't had in a long time. Some real pace and height and power.

Aliir is the loose CHB.
Zerk the last line of defence at FB
Bergman is the 3rd tall.
Farrell is the QB seagull.
Jones takes the opposition's best small forward
Evans takes the other bloke

Sinn gives a different look off the bench with lightning speed.

Burgoyne from the wing if need be.

Burton as backup.
Williams is a tough one. Burns up the track two years ago with his career on the line then a down year and then with his career on the line again, supposedly another amazing preseason. He's too slow so unless he's found a bit of speed, he's backup, however, he ma surprise.

And depending on his development, Walsh over Ratugolea.
Walsh will be an interesting watch for the year.

I do believe 2024 was Williams body adjusting to 18 months of hard work, basically the old second year blues. He went from a zero baseline, div 4 Fitness to a Professional/Elite level and played a heap of games maintaining that level. This year it has allowed him to again build on that base, he will surprise.

You could argue he's a better kick out of the backline than Houston. He could not only pinpoint kicks that no one else could but they would result in quick movement after which would result in a goal or an easy shot on goal. You can't teach that.

Hopefully his body has improved in all areas, speed, power, etc. He can't be found wanting in defence.

Problem is, that back 6 gets destroyed by the teams with multiple tall 200cm forwards. Sydney for example, has 3 of them and made a mockery of our defence in the prelim. Aliir, BZT and Bergman are all undersized. We may not like it, but Esava is absolutely going to have to play back for a fair chunk of games this year.

I dunno about that but it something that is a slight concern.

I blame coaching and the midfield for the loss of the Sydney game than the tall defenders.

I don't recall any Sydney forwards being over 200cm like the King or Whitlock brothers.

I would love Esava to have his footballing mind on par with his footballing body but it is yet to come. If he learns the game, he would be a great tall utility being able to play forward, back and in the ruck for short spurts. At the end of last year, he got jettisoned out of the backline to play forward because he struggled to get into the backline structure and didn't have the timing to get off his man which created several easy goals for the opposition. I'm hoping the best for him because a good Esava would really elevate our team.

Haven't been to any training sessions this preseason. How is Xavier Walsh looking? Really enjoyed his season in the Maggie's down back. Dipped a bit when thrown up forward but understandable. Is he training with the defenders?

God, I hope so!

I mean we've said for years now that Burton is just depth but the coaches do everything they can to put him in the first 22 even with shitty SANFL games.
He has barely played SANFL.

he has played 24, 22, 22, and 15 AFL games in the last 4 seasons. Last year he played 3 SANFL games but if i recall that was because he was coming back from a foot injury.

McDonald, McLean and Amartey. I know not technically 200cm, but pretty much. All bigger than our 2 key defenders.

There was times we had Logan Evans on one of them, meanwhile Esava was up forward doing absolutely nothing. Our midfield didn't do great, but our defence was horrendous. Bergman had his worst game for the year, so did Evans, so did BZT.
