Would we try and move 37 in front of the smith bid?
I assume there's a decent chance that we will. Probably only need to move it into the low 30s, but of course, the problem of that is what we would need to "pay" in terms of draft capital to do such a small move. Alternatively, we simply wait and see if he gets bid before our pick. Presumably we would have another club primed for a trade to make the best of that situation. I think it's probably 50/50 or 60/40 to moving ahead.
Second time for Wehr, I don't really get it because I thought he started this year as a rookie.

Maybe Derksen goes to the main list, might be better trade wise come end of 2025.
Maximum 3 years on the rookie list. I hadn't checked, but his time is up. Was moved from the main list to rookie list via a delisting only one year after his selection in the ND (i.e. just before the 2021 draft). We could upgrade Derksen to main list as a "motivator". But I would say it will have zero difference to any trade price we get for him. Peatling got a future second round pick based on playing games and being good. That's what Derksen needs to do.

More than anything it gives us the picks to play with on draft night. The other alternative is that rather than looking at the likes of paton as a rookie we might actually take him as dfa.
Yes. We can presumably take him (or someone else) as DFA straight onto the rookie list now. Wouldn't impact list spots now.

We could trade 37,74 for 50, f3 with essendon after Kako is bid on. Essendon can use 37. One example of what we could do. We use 50,56 to match the bid on our ruckman.
Or if essendons best pick after kako is say 40, trade 21,37,f2 for 40,Melbourne 2025r1.

Many possibilities, including not with essendon.
Perhaps gold coast is a better trading partner for after Lombard is bid on.

I don't think I've seen this mentioned elsewhere in here, but the giants do have interest in the mid Caroll from Carlton. The two w.a teams do too though.

Caruso does like a bit of a gamble. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't.

Here's an article of Harrison Oliver, a kid I like as a half back prospect. Reminds me a bit of Lachie Whitfield (although a likely 20s pick, not #1) in how he plays his game.

Would be an ideal replacement for Perryman. Small defender who also has the ability to attack and from all reports is a good ball user.

The Ages early phantom draft has us taking the following guys:

Taj Hotton
Ollie Hannaford
Jonty Faull
Rhys Unwin

Hannaford, Faull and Unwin are all GMV Rebel players; choosing all three if they are close team-mates might make it easier to keep them over the longer term (plus the country factor seems less risky than Metro Melbourne). Noted that Olli Hotton has been delisted by St Kilda, could be worth a punt as a DFA or even a VFL listed player if his brother was taken by us?

A very different mock to most I've seen.
Draper, Murphy Reid and Trainor going much, much later than most are predicting.
The first 2 selections get linked to us w lot and happy to go with.
The latter 2 a bit left field.

My thoughts on the club and the picks

I think the 1st rounders are at an awkward spot where clubs will not be looking to move back with the talent available in this draft and also the clubs with multiple picks keen on the talent available and needing the high end picks. Example Saints need to lane some high end mids so they can be competitive (They could look to move up to Norths pick) and the Demons in a similar situation although they dont have any 2nd/3rd round picks and they may be limited in trading back in as I think they already traded next years first.

Club to use the 3 1st rounders unless the players they have on mind for #21 are gone then maybe trade into 25 draft and then hope the bid for Logan Smith is after #37 so they can take a more speculative player, could be a possibility of taking a Carroll/Paton in the national draft if they have interest from elsewhere and with list spots it could be an option in the rookie draft for Delana or Bell

In terms of players plenty of options and for needs I think 2 x defenders/HBFers, 1 x tall, 1 x mid and the ruck (Smith). Would like the club to take Travaglia but likely to be gone and reading some ?s on Bo Allen and also likely to be gone, plenty sources linking the club to Xavier Lindsay and he suits needs to with junior days playing Wing, defender, not sure if he had a rune with any VFL teams this year and if the club did take him he would have at least the majority of 2025 in the VFL unless he has some breakout games. And with the clubs liking of taking Vic country kids Hynes and Hannaford would be players the club may look at taking and of the talls Shanahan would be my pick

Can somebody explain to me how delisting works, and how re-rookie-ing works.

Firstly, delisting- if a player still has, say, 2 years on a contract and gets delisted, what happens to the money he signed a contract to receive? Does he get paid out? Paid out part? Just completely shafted?

Secondly, re-rookie-ing. Why move a senior list player to the rookie list? What advantages are there. I would imagine rookies get paid less, but see above question on that. It used to be you could only play senior footy is someone when on a long term injury list - but that changed.

So why is Keefe & Fahey being moved to the rookie list? Why is Wehr never getting off it?

Why is it still called the “Rookie” list when Lachie Keefe (who made his senior debut in 2011 - a year before this entire club had even played a game) is on it?

Paid out in full. Teams are only getting a list spot.

1) Salary cap. Every spot on the rookie list has an amount equal to the base rookie salary outside the standard cap.
2) Moving senior players to the rookie list opens up National Draft picks which are obviously earlier than rookie picks, and are also useful for bid matching.

Moving a senior player to the rookie list doesn't affect their salary though.

See above as to why, but to move players to the rookie list you need to delist them which means they become delisted free agents and can sign anyway in the meantime. Those particular players are chosen because there's a low chance of them getting signed by others (Lachie having already gone through free agency this year and getting no interest) and if they did we wouldn't necessarily be super cut up.

Wehr isn't getting off it because there's no reason to move players off it if you don't have to. Keep them for three years - if they're a regular senior player it's a bonus.

Yeah, really should've been renamed years ago when the Saints put a two hundred game player on it.
