I’d love to see him just put in the guts and left there but our midfield is now all of a sudden crowded .

AFL clubs have been told they must be more transparent with injury news in 2024 as part of increased access negotiated in the new CBA deal.

Sam Edmund believes the first test case of this will come this week as Geelong sits quiet on Cam Guthrie’s quad injury.

The veteran Cat went down in the first minutes of the club’s practice match with Carlton, but the club remains tight-lipped on the severity.

Speaking with former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley on SEN Breakfast, he and Edmund discussed why clubs feel the need to be so secretive.

It comes as teams like Geelong, Richmond and Essendon moved to listing injuries as short/medium/long term in recent years.

Buckley: “Having been in the inner sanctum, trying to communicate how long an injury is going to be, I don’t mind what Geelong are trying to do, because if you say it’s a three-week injury and they miss four, does that mean something’s gone wrong?”

Edmund: “No one’s that nit-picky, at least say 3-4 weeks or 6-8 weeks, they know. The high performance team would know. They’ve done the scans on Cam Guthrie. They know what he’s likely to miss. Short term, medium term and long term is taking the p---.”

“It’ll be interesting to see how clubs navigate it this year, whether they give a toss or whether it’s something they provide some transparency on.”

Will be interesting but the Medical teams are on a win to nothing....different people respond to injuries, illnesses at different rates.
From a personal situation, my mother-in-law was discharged from hospital, on the 29th December, having been told there was nothing more they could do, and given 1-2 weeks, and she's still fighting her illness at home today.

I still remember those Geelong f**kers from last year when they said Stewart was going to be out for 5 to 6 weeks and he only ended up missing one game.

They can't be trusted to provide the truth.

Does anyone have an insight into Nank’s return time? Naismith has been awesome but I don’t really want an R3 stuck on the bubble all year if Nank comes back round 2-3

Plantar Fasciitis is pretty tough to measure in terms of time, it can flare up and settle down quite quickly or take a while. It needs rest.

I would say it's an injury that is highly likely to pop up again through the year and would need to be managed with more rest again

Nank sounded very keen to make round 0. Didn’t realise he’s now the standalone captain.

Not sure.
the upside of the Naismith pick is you don't have to lock him in until you know he's selected for his second game. Not a decision that needs to be made yet.
