That's a huge loss for us. If we can make finals he would be in contention to get a spot. I know everyone thinks Davies would be a good fit but isn't Draper a decent intercept marker which is what Cox is?

Draper would be ahead of Davies, surely. With hopefully Chapman and McDonald to return in a couple of months.

Of course I dislike the academies and concessions for the northern clubs and the priority picks for the likes of Norf, but I disagree with your take that they are a bigger integrity problem than an uneven fixture.
I know which advantage I’d rather have - the one that involves getting top 5 picks for chump change.

The vic clubs get the best advantages. Father son picks, home grand final, no travel during the year, marquee fixtures.
Add 50% local talent in the draft, numerous players coming back home every year it is no wonder they dominate the comp.

NSW, QLD get the second best set of advantages, with there academies.

SA and WA clubs get screwed, unless you love Sunday games, an no FTA games.

We need Joel Hamling ...oh wait...

The annoying thing is that the MSD is usually after Round 11, so realistically the value of picking up whoever the best state league tall defender is would be limited (assuming none of the young guys we have right now are up to playing on the 2nd tall so Luke Ryan is left to do that).

I’m not sure that the club would pick someone up to play for 2-3 months anyway tbh.

Let’s face it they’re not needed if not for two long term injuries at the same time. We have four genuine KPDs on the list and at least 2-3 others that can play KPD if required. I’d have no issue with Davies (a genuine KPD) or Draper (more a third tall type) playing the odd game.

You generally can’t carry too many players for the sake of depth. McDonald is fine for depth for example, however two of him probably means we’re short on KPDs in 3-4 years because they’ll either get traded or retire (McDonald is 29 today).

With adequate coverage Davies and/or Draper should be okay at AFL level but they won’t be able to lead our backline like Pearce, Cox and Ryan do for several years.

I think Luke Ryan is a great interceptor anyway. Just get Tabs or Treacy to play back if we need a 2nd gorilla tamer.

'look if you stay at freo you'll have to wait for one of two very injury prone players to go down to play, what are the chances of that happening?'
As is he'd still be playing even if we kept Logue too.

Sounds like there might be a partial ligament or a meniscal tear on Oscar McDonald and we are waiting to see if it can be managed conservatively.

The comments below indicate hopefully ok news at least:

"I'm not going to say what it could be, because it could be a number of things.

"It was his first game at the club, and he was playing a really important role for us and has had a super pre-season.

"Hopefully we get a better result there."

Bit of ligament tear (PCL/ACL or collateral) bit of bone bruising, meniscal cartilage combination of each.
