What chance would you give Brian Cook even letting him within a bull's roar of the club.....

JSOS is way overrated by many on here, if he had the effort of Ben he’d be stinking it in East Keilor FC like his brother.
Effort is his one wood, he needs to find some more consistent clubs in the bag.

I'd agree that he's overrated by some but would also note that some believe that he gets by on name alone, which is not great either, his greatest strength is certainly his work ethic though.
It sounds as though he's having a solid preseason from the reports I've read, so hopefully he can have a huge season & put his place in the side beyond doubt, we really need greater impact from that third tall forward position, it'll take us a long way to achieving our ultimate goal.

Changing tack.

Is it certain that we will take on both of the Camporeale boys in the draft this year?

I feel that we need to find another young key position player to develop more than adding 2 similar types to an overflowing wing rotation group.

Thoughts?

By the time they’re drafted Acres will be 29, Doc will be 31, and Ollie may well be beginning a transition to an on ball role not long after.

I wouldn’t say the wing rotation will be overflowing by the time the campos are ready for senior football.

The club could achieve all it's desired strategies, even though it may not be in a single off season

As for the Camporeale boys, Ben will be a balanced mid, think Cerra and Lucas can play as a HB, an area that we have some of our oldest players on the list in Newman, Saad, Williams

But if one of them was needed on the wing, it would be a natural progression in time for the likes of Doc, then Acres. O Hollands will come more inboard as he develops

Adding both Campo boys, at a cheaper cost also allows us to manipulate our draft/trade strategy

I understand the sentiments completely. We are going to need a young, developing KPD relatively soon. Perhaps another KPF in the foreseeable future too.

I suspect our list management team is proactively checking out some value options as we “speak”. Ideally we can find some candidates over the next three years. We have a couple of likely young lads on our books in the VFL who were overlooked in the draft. It is absolutely heartening to hear that Lemmey has stepped up in this pre season.

The Camporeale boys both have sufficient runs on the board to “justify” committing to them in the draft. It remains to be seen if it will cost us our first and second rounders, or just a couple of second or perhaps even a third rounder. Ben certainly elevated later last year, now looking the better prospect of the two as a genuine inside/outside type. He still is largely overlooked by the phantom draftees for more hyped youngsters. Lucas was in the SA development squad while his brother was not. He is more outside than Ben, with perhaps sharper disposal skills, but both are quality in that area. Being a leftie, Lucas is an excellent point of difference.

While we are loaded for mids and wingers all of a sudden, they provide an excellent lead in to our next generation and it would be surprising in the extreme if they were overlooked. Lucas projects as an excellent modern day distributor off the back flank, as much as a winger, and there will be vacancies there when he “matures” in say three years.

Yes. If the discount system remains the same there's just to much value.

For example, if we end up with pick 15, Ben gets bid on at Pick 10 and Lucas 25, we can almost split that pick and end up with enough points for both (probably need to add change). That's way better value then any KPD we could get at pick 15.

Also, it's not like Ben and Lucas are one position players. Both are pretty versatile and could be developed in a number of roles depending on where we need them (onball, wing, flanks). I don't think wing is the role either is best suited for at AFL level either (Ben - Onball, Lucas- HBF).

Good father son prospects don't get passed on. Basically guarantees a career player for the club who costs double to pry out of the club if a trade were to be sought. Allegiance means they generally take less $ in contract negotiations and they generate boatloads of revenue for the marketing team.

Even if they aren't immediate needs both Ben and Lucas will be in Navy Blue come the end of the year. Talented Twin F/S prospects are a media teams wet dream.

It's a fair question - we've now got depth in pretty much all positions, but a developing KPD is an area we'll need to address at some point.

We're committed to the Campo bros, who for the reasons others have mentioned, will complement our list going forward with talented youth. It'll probably also be the final year where the current discounts apply, so we should also take advantage of that. And if their development this year follows a similar path to 2023, our current 1st and 2nd round picks will likely get swallowed up with the bids.

I'm gonna put my amateur List Manager hat on again for the moment. I'd be looking to trade in a young KPD. The last 2 years we've brought in one player each year through a trade - and this year may not be any different.

The one who I'd be pushing hard for is Jedd Busslinger from the Dogs. Currently out of contract and may well be gettable. If Ugle-Hagen re-signs, they'll have their key forwards sorted alongside Naughton - which means that Darcy may be earmarked in a key defensive role alongside O'Donnell - who's been a bit of a revelation for them as a Cat B rookie. And they now have Croft who can play as a KPF or KPD. Which in turn could see Busslinger pushed even down the pecking order in terms of opportunities.

Personally, I'd be offering up our 2025 1st rounder to get Busslinger across if he was interested - which should be a pick in the mid teens similar to what they paid for him. And with the Dogs securing Croft in the 2023 draft, I reckon they wouldn't stand in the way if he requested a trade - so long as they can get something decent in return.

And according to The Inner Sanctum (Jono Baruch), we were linked to him leading into the 2022 draft....which as an aside, had us selecting Hollands with our 1st pick, Binns with our 2nd, and O'Keefe as our project ruckman.

I am confused, why are we trying to turn players that play certain positions, into playing as KPDs.

Harry, Lemmey, TDK, even Jsos

We have Weitering (currently injured), Young and Durdin.

Unless all of them are injured at the same time, I doubt we would try others, such as forwards or ruckmen

Future 2025 1st rounder optional for landing a KPD draft or trade scenario if available, Cody Walker 2026…

Same as others have posted more than a few times that they want to see Kemp forward. People spitballing their ideas.

I think we already have a young developing key defender (or forward but I think he suits def) in Lemmey.

Lemmey is more forward half than back half.

Not sure he has what it takes to make it at AFL level but he is certainly talented and deserves time which he should get with us.

A TDK/Lemmey ruck/fwd combo, with Harry getting the number one defender and Charlie getting the third and given a license to roam.

Doesn’t mean that it shouldn’t be looked at, we all see things differently…
Liking his development down in defence, had a great year down there and looking forward in his growth wherever that should be for the team..

Happy to see Lemmy developed as a forward at this stage. It will either see him become a forward or it will lead to him becoming a better defender. It just seems guys who have developed as forwards and become defenders are better for it. I'm guessing it encourages their marking game which is important if you want to be a really top key defender.

Agree. Also, feel its much harder to be a good AFL level key forward then a good defender. Alot more examples of key forwards succesfully switching to defence later in their careers then the other way around.
