Interesting also that Josh Barnes also had L. Young listed on the bench:

B: A. Saad, J. Weitering, C. Marchbank
HB: S. Docherty, M. McGovern, N. Newman
C: B. Acres, P. Cripps, O. Hollands
HF: J. Martin, C. Curnow, M. Cottrell
F: J. Motlop, H. McKay, M. Owies
FOL: M. Pittonet, A. Cerra, S. Walsh
I: G. Hewett, L. Fogarty, T. De Koning, L. Young, Z. Williams (sub)

Surely Young only plays in a scenario where a forward line has 2-3 monster forwards? In which case, you'd name him on the ground. But even so, the run we got after dropping Young and going slightly smaller with more intercept type players with just Weiters as the big guy down back completely transformed our backline. So I still think our current setup needs to be maintained, even against teams with several tall forwards, and back ourselves on counter-attack. Unfortunately for Young, he may not get back into our side unless Weiters got (heaven forbid) an injury.

Also interesting selection to have Williams as the sub. Can he come on and have impact late? I dont mind it.

Who would you guys play instead of Young? Is Williams a good sub choice?
JSOS on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, in fact any day that ends in D.A.Y.

Question to all…

Let’s say we have approx $800k to spend come trade week. Who are you taking to be wearing Navy Blue and why?

Who is your dream player that could be available?

We still need front half creativity so probable Archie Perkins or Ben Ainsworth but 800k is too steep for one of those two.

Not really thinking we are in great need of anyone.

Gulden, English and McCluggage are a class above the rest, would cost a little more than 800k, but certainly would not knock any back. No recruiter would. Only N.Daicos compares with Gulden as an elite young connector. English in tandem with TDK would be ridiculously good. “Clug” is a top end player, but I would have him behind Walshy and Cez, with Ollie having potential to match him.

The younger brigade is where I would look to spend a cash “bonus”. Weddle and Phillipou the standouts there.

Weddle defensive 3rd tall/genuine utility and Phillipou will be a slower burn, but may end up a Fyfe who can kick”.

Max Holmes will have to be traded for, he turns 22yrs end of July, currently played 51 games 21 goals 190cm 85 games #20 2020 draft…

If he has a good year and for arguments sake he wishes to be traded, what’s he worth? can we manufacture a trade with current and future picks? and what would Geelong demand for a fair trade?

I’d say they rate him fairly highly and atm would probably want a pick around 10-15 especially on how strong this draft ends up being, he’s now in that sweet spot in games and preseason’s where he should be about to step his game up to another level…

If we go deep into September again, and we have the Campo twins who say have good/strong draft seasons then they are certainly our priority…

I’m a big Holmes fan and players of his type, i see Ainsworth a bit differently not sure we actually need him, keep playing and developing our own forwards…

If I’m picking just one, id go Mcllugage but i dont really see that as being realistic, the same goes for Baker from the Tigers.

I do see Bailey Smith as being realistic and a great fit, the same as Berry from the Lions, Florent from Sydney and Duggan from WC who is a UFA.

Unless injury creates a real need, I will be amazed if we do any significant trading or look to any prominent free agents in the next two seasons.

Tend to agree, if anything we would target UFAs that may want to take unders to play finals and or a tilt at a flag, similar to Brian Lake when he left the Dogs

We have the Camporeales this year and maybe Walker the year after.

I really like what we have done over the last two years. Drafting while picking up some very good players cheap. (Acres/Hollands/Fantasia)

I hope we keep going down this path

the main driver i think is if a key part of the team requests a trade and we need to replace.

otherwise it's internal growth, bit parts and drafting for the future

Personally would rather we bank that money and use it to keep the list together for the long term. We’ll need to give E. Hollands a new deal at the end of this year and TDK the year after. Maybe pick up more value for money types that fill needs (ala Acres) but we don’t need to go after any big fish imho.

Tom Lynch is who we want JSoS to be when playing third tall fwd. A smart goal assist machine.

I'm really hoping E Hollands has a different set of attributes.
Without comparing him to a direct player of his type as a forward/midfielder with names, he has many attributes that some the best players in the competition possess that should have him becoming a very valuable player for us down the track if it all clicks..

Any gun KPP. I feel we have the run but lack some KPP depth

Gold Coast has been a basket case since its inception because it is a club with no culture. Players don’t feel an attachment and the lifestyle is far from the AFL bubble.
It’s not an unfamiliar story for Gold Cost teams in other national codes.
I have no problem with their Academy access but the way the AFL has propped the club up with additional on and off field support has been both unfair and an abysmal failure.
Appointing Hardwick and with list development, there’s no excuses now.
They should play finals in 2024 and be a real power in the next decade. Not convinced it will happen.
Used to have no culture* Players didn't feel the attachment*

These are old tropes about the club that aren't true any longer. Say what you will about Dew, one thing he (and Cochrane as well as others) did manage to do was instil culture and a desire for the players to play for each other and the club. There's a reason they don't leak interstate players as often as they did. Even depth/fringe players who would be ripe for the picking in years gone are choosing to say.

JSOS is underrated I feel.

Probably ahead of Martin in our forward line as the third tall type player.

He never looks quick, but he's great at finding good options and being a threat.

With a full pre-season and a clean run, could really shine

JSOS is way overrated by many on here, if he had the effort of Ben he’d be stinking it in East Keilor FC like his brother.
Effort is his one wood, he needs to find some more consistent clubs in the bag.
