People are talking about a second KPD as a need for us.

I think Caleb Marchbank will surprise a few on here this season.
It is a need as beyond Weitering we have a few question marks over the quality & availability of our KPD - I still believe playing Weitering at FB isn't the optimal use of his skillset as well.
I know some rate Marchy very highly but I have some concern about him as an undersized KPP but I hope that he can really go on with it & put his place beyond doubt.

someone explain matt carroll to me please - why am I interested in him?
Short answer. He is a Carlton player.

Slightly expanded. Rookie listed 188cm. Good authority 190cm or a bit more now. “Baby” of the team late November birthday. Raw half back, wing or perhaps ultimately a rebounding 3rd tall with some growth and development. Looks like a late developer.

Good attitude. Rookie status likely an advantage with our stacked list. Has three years to steadily develop (his craft😉) with little pressure. Decent skills and has the somewhat rare luxury of “needing” to be ready in two or three years, not right away.

And don't forget he grew up supporting Carlton. 😉

Let's presume (for the moment) that Fantasia stays fit... (fingers crossed as he is proven quality)

Do we really need all of Owies, Durds, Motts and OF on the list.

Essentially 4 specialist small forwards...?
Yes.

2 of them are injury prone.

Bell was traded for a pick 20 I think. We gave dogs 19 and 20 for 12 which was Curnow. The Dogs picked Dunkley and Collins so not the worst trade ever but certainly a massive win for us.

Yarran for Cunners... even at this stage a massive win for us considering what happened to Yarran.

Henderson for McKay - another massive win.

Despite Yaz’s post Carlton career I wouldn’t call this a ‘massive win’.
Yaz, in his time at Carlton, did so much more with his talent than Cuningham has to date.

I just meant from a trade perspective. Yarran never played a game for Richmond and Cunners has played 50+ and still going on our side. They got us with the Grigg trade though. Still don't understand how we got so badly screwed on that one.

Would love to get Zurhaar from North. Exactly the X factor type of player we need.

Zurhaar's overrated.

Butcher with the ball, does 1 big hit or so a game and kicks it sky high

IMO it depends on cost but a forward line with him and Martin playing off the two primary targets would be difficult to match up on.
His physicality is overrated, conversely, his disposal efficiency is similar to JSOS who I wouldn't consider a bad user.

Stengle as a Delisted Free Agent and get Cooky to blackmail Geelong with the details of them giving players free houses to stay under the salary cap to get Max Holmes for a pack of stale Twisties please.

Yeah we are stacked for small forwards but none are really going to win a game off of their own boot.

Motlop may get their with time. Durdin has it in him but gets less and less likely by the season. Fantasia a recruit for the now but who knows how his body will hold up. The rest aren’t prolific enough around the goals.

Stengle the obvious one, but would be happy to throw a carrot in front of a few OOC 2025. Weightman and Daniels interest me greatly, but I’m just dreaming.

two player types that would elevate us are:
  1. a speedy damaging forward - like a charles cameron type.
  2. a well balanced power midfielder with a long booming kick
Motlop is probably our most lively small. Really looking forward to what Elijah, Fantasia and Moir can bring.
Also a big fan of Little Durds, has great upside like Mots a little different in forward/mid type abilities both can/will be dangerous if they stay on the park…
Fingers crossed he just doesn’t turn into one of our current few players that keeps on struggling with ongoing injuries…
Knock on wood 🪵 fingers crossed 🤞

yeah agree. I like durds too but he's a little behind mots imo. He was going really well for a little while then he seemed to go cold a bit - not sure if it was injury related?
