I think Nth will trade with WC for pick 1. Very low risk trade for the Eagles and only move down one place, it will be interesting what they will demand.

2 and 14 for 1 and 39
Tin foil hat conspiracy theory time... AFL happy for Norf getting extra end of round picks with idea they'll trade with Eagles to get Eagles 1st (Harley Reid), and Eagles score a couple of extra end of 1st round picks (plus pick 2).

It's actually pretty risky. Trading pick 1 is always an absolute risk, if the bloke that you traded turns out to be a star it doesn't really matter what you pick up on the side. Even now Freo are the butt if jokes for trading pick 1 (Hodge)

Harley Reid does look like he'll be a star

We are hoping to move up the order as there will be lots of early picks swapping hands because of Academy's, F/S etc

We are read to jump in to see what we can do to advance our position.

Like I said earlier we are now in a position to take advantage of any stuation that arises. We also have money in the Salary Cap, especially from 2025 so we can bring in a "big fish" if something falls our way

I don't expect a heap of changes but there could be 1 or 2 significant ones. A few players have been asked to wait on contracts because of this

Gotta be honest - I'm not seeing the appeal with Bailey Smith.

Sure, he's played some really good footy. But he'll cost a mint, is apparently dirty on WB because they made him play outside the midfield and he fancies himself a gun mid, and his disposal is ordinary at best.

To me that just looks like an overinvestment in a player who won't buy in to team roles unless it suits his ego, and who (while fast) doesn't really help in the area we're especially deficient on-ball - reliable, quality disposal by foot. That's without even delving into the potential off-field issues.

Would be more inclined to see if we can shake Spargo or Sparrow loose from Melbourne. Two straight sets exits in a row for them, would have to think a few players might be looking at their options and the club may be looking at how they can address some of their immediate needs. Both Spargo and Sparrow are neat, effective, smart footballers. They're not high production, but they play the high forward roles well and offer good connection between midfield and forward.

Another option would be Sam Wicks from Sydney, and if they're keen on Dow I'd be putting Wick's name high on our list of requests in any deal. He'd be Fogarty with the ability to hit the scoreboard from anywhere inside 50.

I think we've already got enough 'big fish' on the books.
Trade in solid 'b' graders or role players and draft for needs this year.

I'm interested to see what we do with our Ruck situation.

Playing Pittonet with TDK hurts us I believe. Pittonet just has no impact around the ground and rotating them on the bench hurts our overall run. TDK as a forward makes us really tall.

JSOS with TDK/Pittonet is ok. But JSOS has been given a few baths in the ruck.

I'd really like us to put an off season into McKay as a second ruck. He has good pace for his size and is decent at ground level.

Smith would be nice to have but surely no one believes he’s actually happening.

I think we will land Hollands and a low tier OOC/DFA, then hit the draft. Gresham a slight chance if the Bombers deal blows up and he wants to sacrifice some $ to play finals.

I think Cook and Austin are preparing for a big catch in 2024. We will have more cap flexibility and draft picks to work with in 12 months time.

I see trading pick 1 for a player as a risk, trading pick 1 and getting pick 2 and extras is a great deal.

Read by all reports is already a risk for WC but that could be just speculation

I'll be staggered if we do anything with our rucks.

I’d be staggered if we retain Mirkov.

Okeefe should be third in line and should take the bulk of the minutes at VFL level.

Pick up a ready to go tall forward/ruck who will give us coverage on both lines.

I think the experiment was worth a try but he’s still a long shot to make it 2.5 years later.

Always been a fan of Smith, but you're right, would cost way too much in picks and salary (rumoured to be on 700K)

The other thing, how much is he prioritising footy in his life, 2 average years of output is concerning

Sparrow would be a dream pickup, that perfect HF/mid we need

Spargo is an interesting one, has some attributes we need, but depends how the club views Durds and Mots in development

I would do Wicks for Dow, tough, quick, nice level of mongrel

I’m surprised Gresham hasn’t nominat the Dons yet, wouldn’t surprise me if he’s hoping we up our offer.

They are a Blues family and the younger brother is in our academy, why go to a club that’s struggling.

If our offer for Gresham got the Saints band 3, we could always sweeten the deal by asking less for Dow.

Instead of a 3rd for Dow, he goes for a 4th or for free.

Wicks could be squeezed out of Sydney. Hard at it HFF. Not against it.

Hollands.E....seen his abilities at Suns.very gifted ball magnet.very quick.very strong.De Goey type.seemed to be on and off at Suns(he should settle nicely at Carton)...i think we get him for a trade??we need our picks
He's bigger version of Ollie..!!...as I said ball magnet.not perhaps incorporated very well into Suns team, some great individual efforts from him....hopefully Hardwick not fussed to lose him

He's good......shhhh

I guess the other issue is that Mirkov and Boyd need to be elevated to the main list as it currently stands.

Not sure if we can continue to have 2 development rucks on the list, especially when you have Lewy Young who can come in and pinch hit in an emergency like we had in the Freo game this year.

I'd still persist with both Mirkov and O'Keefe next year, especially with O'Keefe being an underage draftee this year (still only 18yo). Give Huddo another year of development at VFL level without throwing him in the deep end. He showed some good signs during the year - love his aggression - but copped a few hidings even against young rucks like Moyle and Bryan.

Why do we want Caddy? Don't see the need for a tall forward tbh. We're at the point where we need to be drafting for need, not best available. Someone sell me on it since I've seen multiple people stating their desire for him now.

We need another option up forward that mark the ball but also nimble enough for the ground balls. Med forward like Mitch McGovern was drafted for.

Should have tried this on with Ben McKay. KPD and see how he went as a relief ruck.

Players with speed have to be the main target this offseason, looking at our delistings Honey and Philp even though they didn’t play a lot or turn into what we wanted them to be were the two fastest players on our list.

O’Brien would probably beat everyone at the club besides Cottrell over any distance longer than 50 meters, if Fisher and Dow get traded while they don’t have straight line speed they both probably have the quickest feet over the first 5 meters on our list apart from Saad.

We have the big forwards, we have the big bull inside mids, we have the endurance beast mids, when all fit we have the flexible quality backline that can handle any opposition, the last piece we need is a couple of dangerous speedy forwards that make the opposition forwards nervous Fog, Owies and Durdin all try their hearts out but we definitely need an upgrade at that position.

I am guessing that the Gresham situation is waiting on the AFL to give it the thumbs up.

If they agree to the Shiel quid pro quo end, then Gresham becomes a bomber.

If not, then maybe he won't get the mega deal, and maybe he goes elsewhere

Given the manipulation in exchange for Shiel, Saints will end up with a band 1 compensation for Gresham

Line breaking mid/half-forward who kicks goals and has won finals off his own boot? Sounds like a player who fits our needs.

Output has been concerning the last few years but the Dogs are a borderline basketcase and Bevo seems inept at getting the best out of any of his players.

not questioning his talent but i'm not convinced he fills a 'need' simply because he may be available.
A pacey, goalkicking medium/small forward and another Key Back are still the first two priorities for this list IMO.
