I guess I am answering my own discussion. But I remember when Liddle was getting slammed around here for getting involved in list management. Yet, posters seem pretty happy that Cook is involved in the same. I imagine it comes down to a successful track record versus a newbie in the role.

I think it’s more about Salary Cap profile than particular players

great to have further confirmation Soapy, last trade period was very conservative and unimaginative, when I mentioned it , was lambasted, Probably salary cap restrictions were the cause for caution .
Looking forward to a few quality youngsters and some astute mature additions this trade /draft period. The correct list additions could just about get us to Grand Final next year.
Confirmation?

Lambasted?

You only like to talk to posters who agree with you?

There was talk earlier in the year about our interest in a Demons small forward, not sure who, Chandler, Spargo?

Think with our 2nd half of the season, things have likely changed, in terms of who we were targeting

I'd say the likes of Gresham have out priced themselves for us and most likely * bound, Smith would be outside our salary unless Dogs pay a large portion, so think he remains a Dog

Hollands is a chance, depends on what pick though

This stage seems like a quiet ish trade period

Who was responsible for Deluca? Horrendous pick up

From memory people were annoyed when Liddle went behind SOS's back to meddle with list management. Cook appears to be working with Austin and co. to form a plan with everyone on the same page.

That as well as Cook having a much better track record, of course.
There was always two sides to that & some were very quick to paint SOS as a martyr.
Either way, the club does appear to functioning much more harmoniously these days which is a clear win.

I don’t know how true but there are a few at the club that believe Bailey Smith wants out of the Bulldogs and we are certainly asking questions if not more

You’d think HFC would win out in any bidding war with pick#3 (confidently advised as on the table by Scoop for B.Smith), and if they can pull the heartstrings for his old supported club.

Was it Bailey Laurie? I remember seeing he had some really solid AFL games, getting a lot of the footy, surprised he didn’t play many games this season.

If we somehow could manage to miraculously trade up to GCS/GWS first picks…

1. Conner O’Sullivan 198/92 KPD
2. Nick Watson 170/67 Foward/mid?
3. Ryley Sanders 186/85 Midfielder

If somewhere between 10-16

1. Ollie Murphy 200/85 KPD
2. Darcy Wilson 185/74 Mid/Wing/Fwd
3. James Leake 188/75 Fwd/Def

Geelongs Pick 7 and Western Bulldogs Pick 10 would be the only 2 picks potentially available in the top 10 for us. Pick 4 from GCS too far of a stretch for us to get up to.

Both would be line ball as to whether Watson would make it to either of those picks.

Imo if Sanders is gone by their pick Geelong will trade back. Dogs will be trying to trade up to 4 to avoid losing their picks to an early Croft bid.

That leaves:

Tholstrup
Collard
Leake
Delean
Moir
Callinan
Sanchez

As the best small/medium fwds left. Collard and Delean probably the most natural goalkickers but have their drawbacks as players.
I'd feel a bit dirty if we didn't take Sanchez.

Couldn't see how we'd get Smith done...

They'd want one of our top line players plus something (and fair enough)...
Not sure how we'd afford him with the money we are already paying our top end...

It would rock trade week and he'd certainly complete our midfield...

I can see North busting their nuts trying to trade up using all of their concession picks to get a pick to grab Sanders....I can honestly see them offering picks 14, 19 and their two 2024 end of 1st concession picks to GCS for pick 4 to get access to him. With 2, 3 and 4, they jag McKercher, Curtin and Sanders.

Anyway, I digress.

Geelong would only part with pick 7 if they were offered well overs, which they can GAGF, the entitled flogs. Dogs at pick 10 - meh, depends who's still on the board. From what I've seen, after the first 9 or 10 potential top picks, it pretty much levels out after than - so I wouldn't be in a real hurry to trade up unless there's a slider we're desperately keen on.

I can see us taking pick 16 to the draft and trying to get a second pick in the 30's similar to last year. At pick 16, one or more of those you mentioned - Tholstrup, Delean, Sanchez and Collard - will be on the board. Leake also looks handy, but may be gone by our pick. Charlie Edwards looks a real bolter and should be available - could be a steal.

Either way, I'd be happy with any of those with our first pick.

I believe our big issue in the forward-line is a small forward with true game-breaking potential. Motts has shown signs but I'm unconvinced. At present I can't see any of our smalls kicking 4 in a final and tearing a game apart, which all of the top teams have (Greene, Cameron, Pickett, Hill etc.)

I like our smalls that play hard and apply massive pressure, but I believe we have too many that are "defensive forwards" that don't impact the scoreboard enough, either through kicking goals or setting up others, i.e Durds, Mowies, Fogarty, Cuningham (not saying these guys don't do any of that, they just don't do it as much as I would like).

I believe one of the moves we NEED to make this off-season is bringing in a dynamic small that can do all of the above. Whether it's trading for a Ryan etc., or trading up for the Wizard, I don't mind. The beauty of our situation is that because we're only a few pieces away, we can "overpay" for these guys (i.e giving overs to trade for Ryan since he'll no doubt start a bidding war if he becomes available) and it won't impact us that much.

I think our other main issue (leg speed across half back) can mostly be solved internally through Williams coming back, playing more Boyd when he's healthy, and setting up Saad for more dash off half back. I think finding a dynamic, game-breaking forward internally is significantly less likely unless one of Motts or Durds take massive strides this off-season.

I don't know who else in the Ryan mould would become available, any ideas? FWIW I don't think Gresh is that type of player.

Agree 100%

Are the questions 'Can Bomtempelli come too' and 'Do they know how to get to Hair by Ciccone'?

Sounds like that will be the case for NMFC & GC but potentially Reid heading their way as WCE’s will want Curtin for their 1st pick with Colonel Sanders likely to be a Roo.

Sounds like Geelong's pick 7 would be already in train for them as they are pursuing a 'big name' whom they are working on hard apparrently. Interesting to see how this off season pans out.
