is it though? We needed him and he needed the game time. Honestly his career with us, and probably at the topflight, was done before Friday's game
And so playing him in an important game was what exactly?

Do you not see the problem with that?

Are there any players we could poach from the Dons with them once again it total free fall this season?

Perkins, Martin, Stringer?

Can't see them letting go of Durham, Caldwell or Merrett under any circumstances as they seem to be the only few who even care about winning most weeks but surely there's some flankers we could pinch like the Hawks did with D'Ambrosia last year?

Perkins would be a great get. Big and can find it in the middle. Can't get run with other mids there and wasted at HF.

Only 22. Could he be another Elijah deal? Has just re signed though

Can he? Might just be Essendon sucking overall but he was terrible on the weekend. Came on as a sub, had 47 mins on the ground and amassed a whopping 4 touches. None in the forward 50 either.

Maybe you're seeing something others can't but there's definitely a reason the scum supporters are sick of him.

no i dont

Even premiership players get moved on in the following year

Just because a player doesnt have a long term future, doesn't mean they cant contribute in the short term

TBF Cuningham did his shoulder weeks ago. Told to have surgery and be out for year or see if he can get through. Knew he wouldn't get new deal so decided to wait and take gamble. Unfortunately, for him it failed

I'm not putting this one on the club

He didn't contribute in the short term. That's the point...not a disposal, not a tackle, not a mark. There was no contribution.

We played a guy who's shoulder was hanging on by a piece of string. There is not an argument anyone can make that'll ever convince me that was a worthwhile risk.

It's not David's fault, it's absolutely the match committees fault.

Picking under done players with existing serious injuries is a recipe for disaster. It played out how it was always going to play out and we essentially played a player down for most of the game.

Then why play him at the top level? who knows if our sub would have made a difference coming on in the last quarter fresh…we’ll never know, because the sub wasn’t fresh in the last quarter

On a similar note, do you have any info on the details around Corey Durdin’s shoulder? Get the feeling he has been carrying it for a while, before aggravating in a fairly inoccuous tackle attempt a couple of weeks back. Surely if we resigned him for two years, there are plans to remedy this to get him back to his best.

Can be difficult to compare value, but if it was a straight swap for one player, and considering our needs, who do you think would be a fair and reasonable straight swap?

Also forgetting current contract length/value

Always a tough one to judge - so much of the players' value is tied to the club they're at and the club they'd be going to, in terms of list needs and strategy.

Could see the Dees being interested, especially if they flip Oliver for a mint. Think if they picked him up it would be on the assumption that they want to try and keep contending for the next 3-4 years, though given Gawn is pushing 33 and they don't have a developed ruck option coming through behind him, who knows. Cerra young enough that he could be a valuable piece in a medium/long term ruck strategy.

Cerra is absolutely a best 22 midfielder, in just about any team in the comp. He's a little down on form, but that's not insurmountable. However he's not the type to win you games off his own back. Value-wise, I think that puts him on par with a top 5-10 player on a decent list. He's not getting you one of their absolute best, but you'd expect someone who walks into your own starting lineup and has the ability to either impact consistently every week, or be a bit inconsistent but capable of breaking open a game once a month - in either case, you'd want them to be under 30. Who is that player at the Dees?

Reckon you could make a case for any of the following, with varying degrees of likelihood:
- Ed Langdon
- Jake Lever
- Alex Neal-Bullen
- Bayley Fritsch
- Charlie Spargo
- Harrison Petty

I'd be highly interested in Pickett, Rivers, Van Rooyen and Windsor as well, but think they're all young and good enough that Melbourne would take them off the table almost immediately.

Of the first list, I think we'd rank them (on suitability for our needs) as Petty/Fritsch > Lever > Spargo > Neal-Bullen > Langdon.

Maybe, maybe not. It was a risk, they tried, it failed. He played reserves week before without issue. Who else could we have played?

Maybe it reflects that we have so many injury prone players that we are playing injured players?

Who would you have played? The cupboard was bare. He got through previous game and training and was declared fit

I'm not comfortable with it but it didn't cost us the game IMO

I don't but I still can't find a reason why we gave him an "extension" of 2 years

People play with buggered shoulders all the time and often get through the season. It was worth the risk imo

Drinks his own bath water

Tom Barrass - could we afford him?

SEN reporting Dogs and Hawks into him.

29yo, 197cm, 96kg.

Or the Guv brother?

Give them Carroll, Martin? picks...

Perkins is regarded as a FIGJAM who never makes an effort by essendon fans. He's in and out of the team, is more a HF than mid and is third or fourth in line for the role in 2024.

Needs a change of pace but i don't think he's an upgrade on anything we have now, or not for the value they'd want.

he had played in the VFL before that game - its not like we rushed him in

have no issue with us playing him

i mean take a look at this thread...

Interesting. My gut feel

From the above thread:-
I think people forget he’s only 22 and going too hard at a kid imo.

It’s purely poor structure, selection integrity and development issues that’s the problem here.

Need to be targeting the guys that are non negotiable on form and age bracket. Like Redman, McKay, Mc Grath and Wright these guys should be in the peak of their career with a high and consistent output each week as a minimum.

Even last week it was the kids that drove the come back and what little form we have had this year has been driven by the kids like Durham and Caldwell with Merrett guiding.

Perkins is a typical Essendon player right now he definitely has it but can our club get that out of him like a Geelong or Sydney would? Probably not! That starts with selection integrity and development first.

Is Tomlinson even a key defender? Isn't he just another gov/kemp/Cowan type? Am I misremembering him... Thought he even started life as a winger.

And yeah they're 1.92 and 1.93.

Think we need a 1.96+ type
Nope. Both GWS & Melbourne seemingly hoped he'd become one but he's more a big utility.
