I think LDU career would thrive in the right surrounds at a strong club and his football capabilities would become elite.

Could, for sure. I just don't think he, Neale and Dunkley would be a good trio and equally think Dunks is better than LDU so wouldn't really fit.

I guess in this sliding doors moment we probably wouldn't have recruited Dunkley but who knows.

Fair enough, but I prefer LDU because he isn't lazy, he can read the play, he can run and he always gives 100%

To give LDU the benefit of the doubt, its hard to look consistently good in a bad team. But I don't see him as someone who 'reads the play' and always gives 100% - he's an excellent burst midfielder who doesn't run defensively.

Which is fine! Not all players have to run defensively and he's got the most hurt factor of the current North mids.

Except that at the time we were not a strong club and our best known super power was the ability to develop players for them to return to centre of the hive...

Of that top ten, I'd only replace Rayner with Naughton. Brayshaw would be nice, but feel we've got enough of his type.

He, Bailey and Starce is quite the haul in comparison to most of the draft.

Payne came later as well. We drafted well that year. It’s amazing how much being the first pick years on seems to haunt a few people still.

We took Schache at 2 and Hipwood at around 15 and I always consider it good enough since Hipwood turned out fine. Draft is still a lottery in a lot of ways.

Have no idea if this was actually true, but it was certaily the noise at the time.
I don’t remember any talk of LDU being a potential flight risk.

There was certainly such talk about Dow and Cerra.

Back at the end of 2017 we had sfa of any type. Well we had Beams, Rocky and Zorko, with first year McCluggage and Berry, but we just needed talent back then.

But you still know which types tend to be easy to get and which ones are harder to find

i believe his father was terminally ill during his draft year

3 top 20 picks in our best 22. Great day for us.

To carry on from a discussion others had on this board, but the dismay at many clubs supporters for their club passing on Logan Morris one and two times over is awesome. Of course, you could do that exercise across all drafts and all clubs are guilty of passing on players but damn our recruiters nailed that one.

Ed Richards and Naughton are the only two other players I reckon I’d trade Cam for. Otherwise we absolutely nailed that draft all things considered

middle group seems alright
21 - Oscar Allen
24 - Tim Kelly
25 - Noah Balta
26 - Liam Ryan
27 - Brent Daniels
28 - Sam Taylor
30 - Tom De Koning
31 - Bayley Fritsch
33 - Tom McCartin

Low pick bargains too
54 - Jack Payne
57 - Gryan Miers
67 - Dylan Moore

I like Cam, but I would also definitely trade him for LDU or Tom De Koning from that 2017 draft
I watched LDU closely last night. He's a serious talent who would get much better in a good side. De Koning is a prototype ruckman for the modern game . Can jump and is tough enough to contest ruck contests but has the smarts of a small midfielder. I've only seen him twice this year and maybe I've fluked him on his good days but imo he's a gun.

But honestly talking about what if from the 2017 draft is a fruitless exercise. It's nearly 8 years ago. We did what we thought was best at the time and it hasn't turned out too bad at all anyway. Other teams ended up with zilch.

Just shows , there's players in that middle group you'd take in a heartbeat. The draft is a lot of pot luck in many ways.

I’d take Sam Taylor and Oscar Allen definitively over him as well. As someone else said, some players are a dime a dozen and some are rare. Elite key position players and x-factors are hard to find, not saying Cam is better than every other player in that draft, but he’s a rare type for sure.

Anyone opposed to giving Logan Morris a 10 year contract right now? No? I’ll email Fages then.

For real though he’s shown enough now that I kind of don’t want the rumours about us going after a good KPF to be true - runs the risk of them pushing him back to the 2s and eventually leaving.

I suspect the KPF we'd be chasing would be with an eye of replacing Daniher, not to play alongside Joe and Hippy.
