YOU know that Day is 33 next year yeah? He's never taken a season by storm those expecting him to realistically take the heat of Hipwood it's not going to happen

FMD, in an age where life expectancy in Australia at birth is 81.1 years for males, you think that someone at 33 is fo**ing old. Let me guess you're four years of age and anyone over 12 is too old.

Below list taken from 2 AFL articles
The data is collated from each team's selected 23 players each week, including the tactical substitute.
Lions pretty consistent since 2019 being 25.2, 26.1, 26.1

Hipwood Kicked 47 goals last season and 35 with OP this year that's not bad for someone who isn't the main target inside 50
And played with an injury through the last part of the season .
Sick of the Hippy bashing , it’s horrible .

In his next life ?

Compare the pair:
------ Club Age Debut Games Goals Finals Premierships
Day Suns 32 2011 155 117. 0. 0.
Eric Lions 27 2016 177 262. 14. 1.

Guess a lot of people also bagged Joe throughout his entire career.
Of all the second tall forwards in the comp basically only Hawkins has outperformed him over the last few years. Will be interesting how he goes as the number one guy, but on total numbers he has done better than most people think

Would love to sit next to with whoever voted for Berry and McCluggage to be delisted this year as I reckon we have some Lions matches that need to be re-watched again and again ;)

Hipwood was clearly playing injured in last month and half. At his best he is still a very dangerous forward. He has kicked 6 goals in a match on several occasions.

Daniher retiring is obviously not ideal. But it could be the making of Hippy. I have always maintained he plays his best footy at Full Forward. He is quick and leads quite well. I remember the night Joey missed the final against the Dees with the impending birth of his child and Hippy went deep forward and played a ripping game in second half that turned the tide.

I would be inclined to play him deep forward and have Day - Morris - Rayner - Ah Chee and Lohman as the lead up kicks around wing half forward.

Agree that Hipwood has been a good contributor in his role as the second tall. I do like him higher up the ground, where he has the option to use his pace to lead up and double back so it will be interesting how he does as the main target next year.

There’s no question elements of his game need improving like goal kicking and decision making (some recent ones which I think have stuck in some people’s minds) but given where he’s at in his career it’s probably just him. Still, of all the players drafted over 200cm few make it as key forwards who can kick 35-40 goals a year. We are fortunate to have him.

Another Suns "discard" comes on board ................ good, we have an excellent record with those !!!!

(Dane Zorko and Jared Lyons say "Hi")

Taylor Smith, Dee Heslop, Ellie Hampson from the Women's team also.

+ Callum Ah Chee. :D

I didn't include him because I regarded him as a trade "steal" rather than a "picked up discard".
But on reflection, if you're let go via a trade (especially if it wasn't a "go home" trade), then I guess you have been discarded ........ point taken!!

I know Zorko was technically a trade .... but a very different one given that he never really got an opportunity to be on their list ......... (and for 4 years in a row).

Long may the "Curse of Zorko" continue ...................:D
