Kennedy free to explore his options means - Kennedy free to a good home.

Blows the higher trade value theory out of the water - we will get exactly sfa for him.

That being the case it should be Hewett who’s free to explore the options - Kennedy can do what Hewett does in the midfield as the 3rd/4th mid - Hewett is miles behind of being just a good footballer.
Kennedy saves our ass plenty by taking important linking contested marks.

Given the style of play we should be embracing with more attacking corridor kicks it’s a bloody poor decision not to have him out there when we get **** all in turn

Haynes is 1.92. A perfect height. It is about the same height as Stephen May
May is more athletic + is stronger and bigger in the body, so he can wrestle bigger talls easier. Haynes, especially at this stage of his career, should never be matching up on a tall if we can help it.

Tiger supporter here. Don’t know much about Young, but just checked out his highlights. He looks a very decent player who is ready to blossom as a key intercepting back. Good mark, good spoil and good disposal. Reckon he just needs some more confidence and game time. Thoughts from those who know?
Handy defender but very slow and indecisive + often creates a soft drop (McGovern does this too) by dropping marks he should’ve punched

He’s a good depth option for sure, but would prefer we go past him

I am extremely disappointed with the decision on Kennedy.
One of our very few mids that can kick a goal and take an overhead mark.

Nevermind, we still have Fantasia.....

Disappointed isn't the word for me.

The pain that I have for this decision makes me question the $3500 I channeled into the football club (membership, merch, function tickets, etc ) this year.

It's just absurd.

Mind my ignorance, it’s hard to tell what’s a joke and what’s not on this site

Sounds like it's player driven more than anything - Kennedy wants more inside mid minutes whereas the club see him more as a half forward considering the options we already have in the midfield.

All this per Mitch Cleary ofc

Not sure about this - he is contracted so if a deal isn't good enough we keep him. The move sounds more player-driven from the Cleary report

Simply, you are correct. Our coach refused to play him all year, while lining up Kennedy and McGovern at FB in games.
Then he proved his worth, but it seems, stubbornness controls our decision making. I get a bad feeling again…….
Young has been given more than enough opportunity and has failed on most occasions.

How many VFL games did you watch? Young even struggled at that level…

I reckon JSOS to the backline is on, can’t see him being in the team up forward consistently next year.

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com

The more you think about it the more it makes sense….Id be comfortable with JSOS on the Hipwood, Langford, Gunston types

He’s got plenty of footy smarts

Just got to keep him away from the big power forwards

Why are the cats not playing dekoning?
Maybe there is something a bit sinister behind the scenes going on?

Wasn’t he touch and go coming back from the knee injury for the final against Port? If that’s the case it would be hard to bring him in this week given how well their defence played against Port (and with Tom Stewart also to come back in). I don’t think there’s anything sinister there at all but I’d love for us to get SDK if it were possible.

I think it is funny on here when this happens.

During the season: "Why is Lewis Young playing?"

he gets let go: "why did they let Lewis Young leave?"

:laughv1:

I agree with the sentiment for the most part but thought he did a terrific job in the last two games and did enough in the final to keep his place on the list.

Here's my though process:

1. There's not enough quality KPD depth on the market (Collingwood genuinely considering Marchbank ffsk)

2. When Weitering has been out Lewis has done an admirable job stepping up at full back

3. I saw signs at the end of the season that Weiters and Young may have finally found their chemistry and how they could best work together long-term.

3 has been the biggest problem - that Young has been below par with Writers in but solid without him. If we could get those good games with Weiters in the side it would make a huge difference.

I think this is a terrible decision by the football club unless we have someone locked in as a 196cm+ AFL grade replacement. That's not Haynes.

Yeah tbh, I didn’t look that far into it bbb 👍
But your probably right tho

Not soft, but definitely not physical enough either, as he gets pushed aside in contests too easily.......

If Kennedy is not playing the inside midfield role he's too slow around the ground. His chasing is terrible. Bad example for the young players. Take a late a mid to late 3rd round pick.
Young's disposal and body work is average at best. Take the early 4th for him for some more points. Haynes will replace him for less money.

1st and 2nd this year for Houston and Port's 3rd. Good chance Ben will be bid on before our 2nd. No way Austin is going to hold on to our 2nd hoping no one bids on Ben.

Trade Carroll to West Coast for a late pick.
Fantasia- pay him out and delist. Waste of a list spot.

This year Hawthorn recruited Ginnivan, Gunstan, Chol and D'Ambrossio and shot up the ladder.

Last year Collingwood recruited Hill, Mitchell, Frampton and McStay and won a flag.

We need to find 3-4 players who can come into the side and play a role or less bloody injuries.

It goes both ways.
Weitering needs to learn to work with Young as well.
Only those within the 4 walls would know if this is the case.
Still think we should be asking the question re SDK.
Cats could do with a ruckman and versatile mid 😎

Every year, every club - “free to explore options” means u get a good offer we won’t stand in your way. Pretty much means at least a round less pick. Realistically Kennedy is what - a late 2nd (at best) 3rd round more likely. Now translates to 4th.
I have no doubt he will get 3yrs on decent coin from someone - and good luck to him, he deserves it, just don’t think it helps us.

Yes it says MK asked for more midfield time and got told his opportunities more likely at half forward. If he wants to be a midfielder free to look around.
However I don't think you'd say that to someone unless it was part of strategy already. Someone you want to keep you would tell we'll see what we can do etc etc
