Trading Matt Kennedy might be one of the stupidest list moves we've ever made

To the contrary, this is a good decision. Means the club understands we need speed in the midfield and that Kennedy, Hewett and Cripps canā€™t play in the same midfield.

Making list changes means tough decisions, it doesnā€™t mean trading delist types.

Why? He'll be 28 early next year, plays a role that we have a surplus in and won't ever be worth more on the market than he is right now.

If we want to be able to afford A grade quality we need to be prepared to move on B graders.
He's our second best inside mid behind Cripps, has versatility as a forward target and played every single game this year. We've lost the plot here. AND HOW ON EARTH HAVE THEY NOT LOCKED UP OWIES??? WHO KICKS THE GOALS IF HE'S GONE?

Owies kicks goals but plays like a third tall at 180cm rather than an actual small forward. We need players that pressure and can crumb. But no need to trade him unless we are properly compensated - hopefully a 2nd.

That's a very high bar...

Brock McLean for 11

Warnock for 24, 56 and mucho dinero

Letting Betts walk to secure Thomas

Stephen O'Reilly for 16, 46 and a decade of despair.

Paying nothing for Ackland and stilln getting fleeced.

Clubs donā€™t make these decisions if there isnt something else going on in the background.

You would think so.

However, I believe the salary cap will become an issue when itā€™s time to re-sign TDK and Weitering once their contracts expire. Now might be the best time to trade some other players while they still hold value. The club could consider front-loading some of Weitering and TDKā€™s contracts in 2025, even before their new deals begin, if negotiations allow.

In addition, they could bring in draftees or more affordable players (like Haynes, for example), and although opinions may differ, the club might feel they can get similar performance in the roles that players like Kennedy and Owies currently fill. Owiesā€™ value has risen significantly this off-season.

Hopefully, we can also find a way to squeeze in a bigger name, like Houston but offloading these guys may not mean we are getting a bigger fish.
