No disrespect to McDonald, as I'm sure he'll have a good career, but I'm pleased he's staying with the Swans.

The price would have been way too high to get him, and I'm not convinced he's a game changer, or an improvement on Treacy.

I'm okay with Baker at the right price, and would love us to use two first rounders this draft, or move up the board to get as close to the top 5 as possible.

Yeah I don’t mind the idea of one top 5 selection to get another A grader. Even if it’s an attacking midfielder

Someone's gotten Wallsy some better media training or maybe he's just more fun in person when he doesnt know where to look or how to answer. Didnt give much away only interesting thing is that there is a hint of looking at not just uncontracted players and AB signing seems a matter of when not if

Talking about Warner you reckon snuff?

Emmett is actually a bit scary. He's pretty big and obviously pretty strong and not backwards in coming forwards. Also someone prepared to have such a ludicrous hair style and not expect to be mocked must be pretty uncompromising.
He beat cancer. He can’t beat curliness.

We can only hope.

I have no idea what the price would be for Warner.. 2 firsts? And a future something?
I think it would be all three firsts if outside the top 10. Maybe a second coming back in return. He’s one of the most valuable players in the game now I would suggest. Considering age profile etc.

No way all three of Pies Us and Port make finals, at least one of us is missing, surely.

The eye test tells me it is either us or Port going out.

That said, can also see the Pies replacing the Bombers as the only change.
If only Essendon and Blues weren’t campaigners and got the job done

The swans could well win the flag, so maybe our three firsts in exchange for Warner and their first would be a possibility? I can’t think of more many valuable players than Warner right now. Many people would say he’s genuinely a top 10 player in the game right now. As good as Jackson was at the point of trading he was still a potential player to a large degree at that time

he’s in contract too.

See I think there has started to be a bit of over rating of him (and don’t get me wrong he’s a star). He’s their third best mid. Would you have him 5th in his draft?

Let’s put it this way. What would you expect in draft picks if Caleb Serong asked for a trade tomorrow morning? (Shudder)

Would 10, 14 and 16 for Serong and 18 get it done?
I’d want a top 5 pick in there myself.

Warner is probably not quite as good as Serong at general midfield craft, but he kicks goals and Caleb doesn’t. As we saw with Petracca tonight, being a goal kicking mid elevates a players value dramatically.

If any random non-freo fan is taking about midfielders, and specifically top 10 player in the game midfielders, you have to kick goals to be in that bracket.
The simple fact is there is a ceiling in your value and rating in the game as a mid if you don’t kick goals. Bont has kicked 275 in his career. Petracca is a goal kicking machine. Heeney too this season. Even Merrett has started doing it.

So to answer your question - in the 2019 draft I think it goes like this:

1. Jackson (still based on his potential and athletic freakiness)
2. Green (marginally ahead of Caleb due to goal kicking and size)
3. Serong (an absolute gun at everything apart from kicking goals)
4. Warner (has started the season very well after a down year last year and I have him in 4th right now)
5. Rowell (contested beast but is he more of a viney than a Petracca at his best in 5 years time?)
6. Young (this is the one that’s rising fast. If he keeps kicking goals he will bypass Caleb)
Anderson I feel is one a teeny bit overrated.

Another tick for Warner is he was one of few to actually show up on GF day in 2022 on a horror day for swans.

I don’t necessarily disagree with the trade price you suggested (but that would all depend on where they finish), just the overall rating of him. Anyone having him top 10 players in the comp is having a laugh tbh

It seems very petty for a team to be upset with a club picking a player ahead of them - but I think I remember Carlton was ready to do a pick swap with Adelaide before the draft to select Young. However we made it out to Adelaide that we'd pick Fisher McAsey with one of our picks, so Adelaide balked on the deal with the Blues. Carlton may have been pissed about that.

We were very lucky with how our picks landed on draft day. There were rumours we were very keen on Dylan Stephens and Lachie Ash. Thankfully they went ahead of us, and Serong and Young landed on our laps.
i think half the board was signed up for a stephens and robertson combo at our picks. and that folks is why we're on bigfooty, not making the call ourselves

Swans have an end of first even if they don't win the flag, its one of the end of first round priority picks from North (the good one, 19 right now)

I wanted one of Stephens and Ash, but had accepted the latter wouldn't make it.
I thought Young was locked into the top 4, and Serong didn't have a point of difference.

I'll let the cobblers do the cobbling..

There is no way in hell Warner makes the move this year. I will bet the statue the mods were meant to be building for me from the Jackson trade on it ;) If he wants to move it will be end of 2025.

Pin this one to the top of the thread mate. Never a truer word spoken.
Will never forget Chris Read from freo Twitter wanting us to go Robertson and Sharp at 7 and 8 instead of Young and Serong! 😂😂😂

looking forward to watching him up close tomorrow night for 4 quarters. Early days I felt he was a bit untidy with his kicking after exploding from stoppages.
But hard to argue he fits into our mid group very well.

Would defo have gulden a bit better though. Agree he’s not top 10 in the comp. He’s probably top 25 and similar to Serong.

On that point - who is most likely of our players to become a top 10 player in the comp? We don’t have one yet IMO.

It’s Hayden young for me

I never thought Serong had enough weapons but the Neale comparisons are getting uncanny. Any of him, Jackson and I suppose anything could happen with Young whose midfield growth is pretty spectacular at the moment

Walls comments today COULD be read as a direction contradiction to this opinion to be honest
