Bit random and probably the wrong thread. I don't watch much of the womens team but the way they sing the song is epic. Puts the mens team to shame. Half the time feels like the boys just want it over and done with. Only time they really belt it out with passion is after a big win.

I went back through this account out of interest. I have no idea how the timings line up, but there are some good calls (if done ahead of time) and some absolutely howlers.

Feels like some nuffy that is desperate for attention picking things that sound plausible and running with ALL of them so the odd one sticks.

Hopefully it changes this year but we simply don’t spend enough draft capital in the front half of the ground.
Amiss - pick 8 in 2021
Sturt - pick 17 in 2018

The remainder of our forward line is made up of rookies and late round picks.
Some we have got lucky with like Treacy (who is a star and clearly should have been a first rounder in hindsight).

Others are solid role players but have significant flaws in aspects of their play and were late picks for a reason (Switta and Freddy, picks 73 and 61 respectively). I don’t think either of these two players make the Brisbane B22. They are classic regulars in a mid table side that get pushed out the door as the team improves and moves into a top 6, perennial contender phase.

There’s a former star we got for peanuts (pick 53) in Walters whose best days are most certainly behind him and needs replacing.

Our other forwards consist of guys like Banfield, Emmett, (none of whom were selected with early picks and are not good enough based on exposed form at AFL level), or Delean/simpson (still kids granted, but were just recruited with leftover picks after big trades if we are honest).

In the last decade Sturt and amiss are the only forwards we have taken in the draft inside pick 30.

In the same period, we took a heap of midfielders/wingers:

Weller - 14
Tucker - 27
Brayshaw - 2
Cerra - 5
Serong - 8
Young - 7
Henry - 9
Erasmus -10
Johnson - 21


In defence, we took
Logue - 8
Chapman - 14

I know we have traded in some expensive pieces like Jackson too but we need to focus on the forward half for 2 or 3 years now.
Bolton is a good start (albeit not a cheap one).

• The midfield is strong on the back of the above draft investment.
• we hit the jackpot with Treacy in probably the most expensive position on the ground to trade in a gun
• we need to now finish the job with more elite half forwards and small forwards.

This will allow us to score more heavily when on top and properly bury teams.

You're not the first to point it out, but you're absolutely right. So much better than just repeating the same part twice.

I'm surprised we haven't adopted it already. I'd love to see it debuted after our first flag. Imagine the boys heading down to the rooms, jubilant as hell, they've made history. Made a legacy as immortals of our football club. Link arm in arm and then:

Ask opposition fans (not West Coast fans or known Freo bashers) what they think of Frederick and Switta and they certainly wouldn’t be saying we need to replace them to take the next step.

Of course someone needs to go out of the side to fit in an A Grade small forward but I think that’s almost certainly Walters. I would support adding Bolton and a second high end small forward (Pickett or a draft pick) to the list but we might only need one quality small forward to win a flag IMO. Key word is ‘might’ - I’m not 100% sure and posters saying we need two might be right.

Freddy by way of his abilities that no one else has would get a spot in every team. The insane goals, the speed, decent overhead. Its up to the team and coaching staff to make it work

That's true though I thought the Brisbane small forwards and hhfs won them the game.

Their small forwards are good but a rung below Geelong. They performed much better due to the contrasting midfield and game style.

Geelong got a taste of their own medicine. I question that Geelong's are better, when Brisbane noticeably changed tactics theirs went missing, not to mention Daniher had to ruck the entire second-half.
The Cats are regular season heroes, well coached no doubt but they had Port first up to get into a Prelim. who on top of playing like carp were under-manned.

I get where you're coming from and not having a go but I see Freddy as the player who's suffered the most from our inconsistent delivery into the forward line. In my opinion Freddy is often free and then gets the ball kicked over his head or he gets missed by 15 metres with a simple pass. No one benefits more if get more class in our team. I can see Freddy and Sturt being our most improved players next year if either have a good run in the preseason without injuries. Freddys had his last 2 preseasons ruined by injury and Sturt's never had an injury free preseason as far as I can recall.

Those two must be close to our most accurate shots at goal.

Running a game plan that actively targets them, especially when we have dangerous tall forwards attracting heavy attention, is what I am hoping to see in 2025. Bolton out the back feeding on the carion.

How is that going to impact our strategy with draft picks this year and for 2025/26?

If we trade our high draft picks for Warner, can we pay using our 26 draft hand and circumvent the inevitable downgrading attached to Tassie coming in?

This season would have to go down as putting up one of the shakiest fields to contend for the flag in a very long time. All have brought in very major flaws and caveats.

Just because Simpson was our highest draft pick that year doesn't mean we will feel compelled to get him into the side in front of consistent performers. Simpson has to start showing a lot more in games to get picked.
