2024 McClelland Trophy

Most passionate football supporters could tell you who won the premiership in every year of their lifetimes.

From that group of people, I doubt any of them could tell you who won the McLelland Trophy in the same years.

As I said, I actually doubt many if any people could tell you who won each of the last 5 McLelland Trophy, but a vast majority of BigFooty posters could tell you who won the last 5 premierships.
I agree with you on this, but I'm not really sure what point you're trying to make. No one in this thread is trying to suggest the McClelland Trophy is as prestigious or sought after as the premiership.

Those same passionate football supporters are probably more likely to correctly name Brownlow medalists in every year of their lifetimes than they are Leigh Matthews Trophy winners. Some awards measure the same/similar thing by different criteria and most of them, particularly the Brownlow, are full of odd quirks.

The McClelland trophy, same as the Brownlow or All Australian, or many other individual awards, is for the home and away season. No one is saying it is better than what is available in the finals - a premiership or a Norn Smith. Finals and GFs are its own reward.

So the hawks won one final in this time, but lost 3 by 2 goals total, and are being given more prime tv slots on the back of exciting footy.

It’s hardly undeserved, and brisbane are a live chance for both premirships

Love it when someone disagrees with someone else about footy on a footy discussion website and the other person whips out the old salty tears memes.
But it’s not just someone disagreeing is it, it’s someone trying really really hard to upset Hawks fans with memes and trolls, because they are really salty about Hawthorn winning it.

The supporter base that's posting memes and Trolling are Hawthorn supporters most posters are talking about a flawed system Hawks supporters are taking it the wrong way it's nothing against your club

Oh, it’s a flawed system is it… hadn’t been flawed in any other year, just when Hawthorn win it.

It was equally flawed last year too, being the first year they re-jigged the criteria.

or it wasn’t. 2 pages of discussion last year.

Hmmmm.

Oh my. They’re getting upset and have convinced themselves it’s because Hawthorn won it. Oh to live in that tiny thought bubble.
You’re definitely not mad at all.

I’ve already said that I’m mad, furious and shaking. But it’s hilarious that you’ve genuinely become upset and think this is some hawthorn vendetta LOL. Nobody cares, it’s about the McClelland trophy not hawthorn. Everything is going to be OK.

Try again. I have quite literally nothing to be upset about.

There is room to have discussion about the legitimacy of this award in its current format, and the ridiculous cash prize that comes with it, without caring who actually won it in an a particular year.
Your opinion that it’s legitimacy is questionable and that the prize money is ridiculous is just that and nothing more.

And? I can't express an opinion now?
You can have that opinion, but it’s just shown to be an outlier because it’s barely rated and mention until this year.

It's only the second year of the award in its current format. And is an award which has received little attention, for good reason despite the AFL trying to throw big dollars at it to legitimise it.
