I think people are overestimating what Freo paid for LJ. We gave a net 2599 draft points for him, virtually equivalent to a pick 2 (2517 points).
We paid for a lot of potential. But taking someone straight from the draft is ALL potential.
LJ has a proven robust body and match winning flair on the big stage. He has demonstrated versatility that few can match. These things are immensely valuable to a team.
He is already a much safer bet than any draftee.
The deal at this stage is a win for Freo. In the long term he might possibly under-deliver but this is true of all young players.

PS In case anyone here hasn't found Draft Guru it is an absolutely brilliant site. 2022 Trade for Luke Jackson - Draftguru
Depends what our R1 this year looks like tbh. Good chance of it being a top 10 pick. Then it's too much.

It was always dependant on where we finished this year, unfortunately looks like this year's pick is gonna be real good

It's a long season. Let's not write off our season just yet. After round 2 we were 1 and 1 and lost at home to Saints a fee weeks later got pumped by Gold Coast and then we rose up the ladder to almost be top 4.

Lol , punch the numbers if our picks are 7 , 8 , 9 or 10 this year

Never enter negotiations you aren’t willing to walk away from , once Melbourne started demanding the world we should have walked and the smart play would of been to push our points into this year which is shaping up as a very strong WA draft with some great looking WA talls

But oh no …. too much to expect from Freo to play it smart

If you want to know why the trophy case is still empty

Look no ****ing further

But we didn’t pay for proven performance. We paid for potential. If you redid his draft at the end of last season based on performance alone, he might make top 10.

If we were paying for that, last years first round plus change should have been all we paid.

The reality is that trading for young players caries way more risk than drafting. We are betting that someone with an ok at best performance with potential, is going to out perform two top 15 draft picks and a second round pick.

Given you expect an top 10 pick to have a 70% chance of playing 200 games. I would argue that there very few scenarios where this will be a win for us.

After all we traded in LJ which prompted Meek to ask for a trade. So now we are hoping that JOM is going to make all that look like a long term win.

As with the Hogan trade. We bought hope and we’re praying the new angel is going to magic up a GF win at some unspecified time in the future.

But it’s a sellers market and even though Jackson is a Freo supporter, he would of still gone to WC if the terms were ok. WC had better draft picks so we had to stump up.

It’s happened so we just need to get on with it and hopefully see the performances get better and better with time

I’ve been watching the doco on the 80’s Celtics Lakers rivalry.

They talk about how the Celtics management bet the farm in 86 to trade up to pick 2. This they used to draft “the next Michael Jordan”, “best pick in the draft” etc. Bias ODed before he played a single game and it took 20 years for the Celtics to make the big show again.

We do this. Repeatedly. We’ve made the GF once. Since then every time we traded big it has pushed our GF prospects back.

While we are all big on our drafting, they aren’t sure hits. They also take time to develop. If you could plunk Curnow into this team and it cost Darcy, would you do it?
Curnow is one of the only few I'd consider in this scenario.
Others would be Allen (assuming Darcy goes somewhere other than eagles)
Sam Taylor (and Cox becomes a KPF),
JVR & Pickett.
Or Logan McDonald.

Literally all of these will never happen buy that's about the level of player I'd hypothetically want if we ever lost Swaggy.

Interesting you have Logan McDonald and JVR ahead of Naughton who both are a lot less proven. I swear Naughton is a victim of his own success on here. If Amiss has the career of Naughton to the same age, we'll be calling him the second coming of Christ.

I have Logan ahead, but not JVR.
I was a bloody campaigner and just forgot Naughton 🙃
I'd definitely love Naughton in the team.

Anyone feel like Duck from Purple Reign and JoJo from Restump would make a good duo for a podcast.

Been doing the rounds listening to a few poddys.

Feel like OZ has limited footy knowledge and Chief of Restump seems like an old drunk.

Personally feel that those two pods plus Dork talk too much smack and not enough footy.

Barich has ruined the one with the WEST.

I've realised just how much the Duffield leaving the Worst has hurt me this week. I actually really wanted to listen/watch some footy media this week and all I really like now is Hard Ball Gets. I dont really enjoy pods that are basically solely Freo focused tbh

I’ve been listening to clips of Duff on SEN. It’s not the same as the pod he did but it’s close enough.

I've come to appreciate Hard Ball Gets more now that Duff is gone from his one.

For mine, Restump is the perfect Freo podcast. I like the JoJo and Chief dynamic. They can get deep into the root of issues, and still keep it light and breezy. The last two pods with Will Scofield and Bob Murphy were rippers.

Purple Reign has way too many advertising call outs and audio hooks. Kills it for me. I know sponsorship is important, but there is a limit from a listeners perspective, and Purple Reign has tipped past that critical mass of being bearable.

Totally agree. I’ve grown to really enjoy the Chief and Jojo pod. Apart from Duff’s downloads from SEN I don’t bother with anyone else.

i listened to Purple Reign yesterday and got about half way through before the ads got to me so turned it off. Restump pod is at least fun and they seem to be more in tune with the games rather than what food is served in the media suites.

We didn't have the hardest draw in the AFL last year

Our form also looks pretty bad, even in the win and we are arguably a younger team this year

Restump is no1 hands down, great synergy between the 2. I also really like Dork Talk, just 2 freo lads talking as if noone is listening, I like that. Hard ball gets is good but Xavier Ellis tries to make it his show. Flagmantle pod gets 10 for effort but just a different generation gap for me personally. Purple reign- too much weights not even speed work

Tried Dork talk today…took them half the pod to talk about the game.
