Mostly because they don't pick it based off one game, it's almost like a list gets made up and the next bloke on the list gets ticked off.
He fully deserves a nomination based on his year so far, and I'm sure Amiss is getting near the top of the pending nomination list
Ah if that's the case than fair enough, but this stat line should deserve some damn praise:
10 disposals
8 marks
8 score involvements
5 contested possessions
3 goals 2 points

He's a medium defender who's been towelling up small forwards all year, including our own Sonny Walters. Tbh it's kind of refreshing seeing them value something other than large stat lines.

So much this. There is a lot more than stats based on the decision this week. He fully deserves it.

Not sure I buy the "they don't base it off the one game" for rising stars. They show stats from that one game and make a highlights package of that one game. If it was based off a body of work it would be season average stats and a highlights package showing the multiple games he's impacted.

There's definitely a "body of work" thing that goes into the award but normally it's longer in the season. I think Jye was clearly the better player on the weekend but cant begrudge the other dude getting given he's been incredible to start this year

It's definitely no hard and fast rule on that as criteria and they pick and choose when to use the "body of work" clause. Preconceived favourites and Vic darlings are more likely to receive the single performance nomination, others more likely to have to earn it with repeated performances.

That said Amiss kicks 4.1 instead of 3.2 and he'd be harder to deny.

I don't mind the "body of work" explanation later in the season tbh. But either way the nominee this week could have been nominated under both criteria. Been exceptional all season.

Yeah the reasoning's ok. It's the application of it that may be a little more variable.

Either way, it doesn't change the promise of Amiss. Fulfilling that would be better than any recognition or reward handed out by someone in the industry somewhere.

I'm pretty confident a nom comes for Amiss at some stage this year. Probably towards the back end of the year though.

Can someone answer me something I have long pondered.
WHO picks the rising star nom each week? It “the AFL” I know. But who exactly? Gill McLachlan? Hardly.
The AFL Comission? Doubt it.
The all Australian selection panel? Wouldnt think so.

I have a feeling that Cal Twomey and Riley Beveridge are the guys that select this award each week.
Anyone shine any light on this?

I reckon it'll be this week when he kicks 4 on Jones to get us the win
