The article suggests Jackson's deal "averages $900 per year" but that he's on $750 this year. Andy's contract (ends next year?) is apparently $750-850 per year.
It does also say that it's a five-year deal, when 7 year has been falsley reported a lot, which tells me that there's some validity to it.

Oh, I like that a lot less and it’s going to make me a rant a bit. Now, Jackson is playing even better than I hoped for but by all reports he was always coming back to WA and always only joining Freo. A long term contract on massive money just seems dumb
I mean it looks like he would've earnt that money by then anyway? By all reports Melbourne had no issue matching our deal in terms of length and size.

I suppose, trying to have my cake and eat it to. Would have been nice to bring someone in on unders for once but seems Melbourne and Freo both knew more than most (duh) because I’m not sure even his biggest casual fan thought he’d be this good already

Danster knew.
In all seriousness even the great and all knowing Danster didn’t know his best role when he was claiming he’d be a better ruck than Darcy in 2 years. Didn’t realise his best spot was “unicorn”

Can someone who's well versed in the topic talk me through in dot points how the club was not created to be successful by the AFL? Like in terms of concessions and handouts when joining the league?

Looking through the Suns 2019 concession package is pissing me off.

Got in a discussion about how gold coast don't receive the scrutiny they deserve after severe mismanagement with all the handouts they get and they're trying to convince me that Gold Coast were set up to fail the same way freo were

I don't think there's a case for arguing they were set up to fail. The AFL patently wanted the expansion to succeed. The more interesting discussion is around the differences between the Suns and GWS, which have been apparent since 2011. Even now I would argue that GWS are quietly rebuilding more strongly than Gold Coast.

I don't think there's any argument with the notion that the AFL has never had any stake in Freo's success, although that might change if the Eagles continue to stink the place up for another five years.

But like, for my own knowledge, I know there was something (podcast? book? idk?) where they discuss how fremantle was doomed from conception or something along those lines. I'm younger than the club, so would like to know either where to look, or where to find a summary of what went on.

There was a good podcast a couple years back, but I can’t seem to find it.

Will keep my eyes open.

One had the untried Guy McKenna as coach. The other had the vastly more experienced Kevin Sheedy. IIRC they also had Choco as an assistant. They drafted a helluva lot better than GC did too.

This is a good read but it's a fair time investment.

Good morning Dale147.

I'm loving your efforts with the press clips for this week, but you'll be promoted to extra heavy duty legend status, if you're able to throw in a few Weagle clips as well.

The thought of the media feasting on their festering carcass has me aroused far more than it should.

Just a short bit of what went on.
We were promised the same concessions the Eagles were when they entered. After Fremantle signed the deal, the AFL in their wisdom withdrew a large number of the concession, including the number of 17 years olds we could have as protected so no other club could select them From memory, the Eagles had five that were protected, we were given one.
We were elected to supposedly dilute to power that the Eagles were having on the competition. Their winning the flags in 92/94, cost us dearly.
What they received was if you look, basically the same as what the Suns and Giants received.
A person at the head of the FDFC told me in our first year after I said we came in five years too early, "would you prefer to have our own club in our own colours, or a failed bankrupt Melbourne based club. A club that would have just been in colours only because none of the players wanted to come to WA when the club folded or was shoved out by the AFL" This is the same club the AFL WOULD NOT give a send off to. It turned out that Fremantle were the only club to acknowledge the demise of the club by making a big day for them.Fremantle as a new club paid to fly so many of their legends to be part of a parade to recognise them as individuals and as a club.
We were not wanted by the WAFL because it meant a large drain on the WAFL competition. The WAFC didn't want us because they were afraid that we were going to kill the goose that layed the golden egg,WCEs.
The AFL didn't want us other than to take away the Eagles power.
If you get a chance and are interested enough to find out more mon our history and how were born find the history of WA football. A book titled "Behind the play, a history of football in Western Australia from 1968.
A full history of WA football up until and just after the Dockers entry. It gives the troubles between South and East Fremantle in trying to come together to form a team with both clubs involved. The dislike in each other and pride stopped it from happening.
Yep, as a club we have been dudded. Even to the point where we were $8 mil in the red, due to mismanagement. The AFL with Demetriou and Anderson threatening to remove us from the competition. But thanks to a few, we were out of the red and into the balck within three years.
And a huge bonus for Fremantle is that we have NEVER put our hand out to the AFL for money to keep us going, unlike Melbourne based clubs like Melbopurne, Norths, Footscray, Saints, Hawthorn.
OHHH and not to forget the mob from up the road, they sponged allegedly around $15 mil from the State government because they were going broke.
Sorry for the long post, but you did ask.
