From what I can read here the club is leveraging the premium seats for higher level membership.

Close, but not quite.

From what the club has revealed, it seems that either the club or the AFL (they've been deliberately vague on this) intends to use the new function room behind bays 35-39. As the function room also requires seating, those bays are no longer available for any tier of NMFC member.

Important to note: the new function room behind bays 35-39 is not the function room utilised for the Premiership Club functions, the Match-Day functions, or the Arden Lounge/President's Luncheon functions.

Just thought I'd check on my renewal and noticed my reserved bay Social has jumped up a hundred and fifty bucks next year.

Fair hike that.
Yep checked mine too, from $389 to $549 for social club reserved bay. Plus 2 x concessions now @ $439 each up from $289. That's quite an increase.

The seats were moved because of the Marvel redevelopment and the AFL owns Marvel outright.

No redevelopment, no seat moves.
That is simply not accurate. Seats haven't moved - they're still there. As of today the redeveopment doesn't necessarily mean allocated seats must change, just that the club sees an opportunity commercially in making that change. There is no invisible hand forcing the club into these changes. They chose the convenient half truth because it is easier for them if their members blame the AFL.

From what I can read here the club is leveraging the premium seats for higher level membership. Seems nothing to do with Marvel/AFL enforced changes. Seems a straight corporate decision to maximise revenue. The club seems to be spinning this the best way that they can without actually just telling the truth - we can make more money from your seats if we move you. If I am reading this wrong please explain.

You're not wrong - this is spot on.

Only two other points are relevant:
1. You can make change, even unwanted in such a way as to minimise disruption and inconvenience to those based on how much you value them.
2. It remains to be seen whether they're correct in their assumptions commercially. IMO our fixtures are commercially dead and will always be so under the current AFL regime and we are better placed to be aiming for other boutique angles to build our core following. In particular building core reserved membership. Having even more unoccupied space in marginal games will only reduce the atmosphere further.

Going to need to plan for a 2nd mortgage post Tasmania. These are unsustainable rates for an 11 home game fixture IMO and already I'd argue the same for a 7 + dregs / replacement bullshit one.

How are you seeing that? We cant see anything other than year just gone.

Spin Doctor gonna spin.

Wow... That's just not great value at all!

So it's $50 per game where you get to sit level 1 basically behind the goals for 7 games... & 4 games where you have to head up to level 3.

In that scenario, I think I'd rather either upgrade to Premiership Club bay OR downgrade to GA (& occasionally purchase a seat vs 2-3 big clubs).

Yeah def quite a hit to the hip pocket. For the 4 x replacement games you can book seats (if you get in quick) on level 1 in the allocated North bay.

Do we know if it’s possible they are setting up a new membership category there to revival the Marvel type? I know there is the Arden lounge which is to Exy for me but a step up from premiership between the two would be interesting.

Has anyone asked that question?

I’m not 100% sure but I don’t think the premiership club went up? It’s $659 this year, I reckon it was the same last year , is that right?

If it has gone up, it’s not as much as yours.

Yes, I asked.

Here's what I got from the club:

My Q: Will any NMFC members/coteries/corporate partners have access to seating in the level 2 wing aisles, or has the club wholly lost access to these bays?

Club's Answer
: "The new rooms will have various premium hospitality offerings in them. The increased capacities of the new function rooms increases the seats required to service them. There will be times when the capacities of the new function rooms fluctuates up and down. This means there will be occasions when some seats in this area get sold as daily reserved seats. The seats can’t be offered as member seats because at times they will all be required."

That reads as once or twice a year we need them.

So just to review:
  • Schmima Club - doesn't exist anymore
  • Premiership Club reserved seat - lost access to bays 35-39
  • Premiership Club bays - fewer available bays
  • Social Club reserved bay - gone up in cost significantly
:/

I am suspecting now there was actually some special lower pricing for 2023 for existing members from 2022 rolling over.
It will be interesting to see if the 2024 pricing is actually as per above or less for members rolling over, I'll update once the invoice comes through.

Looks like Corporate Jen is at it again...;)
To be fair there's a chance Jen has never seen a North game live if she's still relying on the MCC membership to get her in. We don't play too many games at the MCG.

Problem is they don't have a bay membership for L1 wing. I love the bay. I take my son most times, bring the wife and younger daughter, brought my mate from overseas a couple weeks back. I've actually signed up other members based on bringing them as guests. Can't do that with reserved seats though, so my son, friends, family will all miss out (and so will the club). Prem Club Bay is super exy, but it meets my exact needs. I don't mind paying the 700 bucks for only 7 home games, but I won't pay it to sit behind the goals or worse in the pocket. Total BS.
Has generally been free seats around us in Premiership Club which has been handy when some of our group bring kids on guest passes. Getting squashed in means we may not be able to do that anymore.

Kids just can't go to all home games due to weekend activities that come up, so getting them a seat is pointless.

100% in the same situation. Having the reserved seat for years was great because I knew the people around me and was always comfortable with bringing my daughter to games on guest passes, knowing that it wouldn't be an issue.

The blind defending of the club on display here (happens all the time when anything controversial occurs, "North can do no wrong" - "North isn't to blame" bullshit) by those not directly impacted is super f****** annoying. Please stop.

Anyone whose willing to spend thousands supporting the club by buying a membership year on year without fail, is allowed to vent their frustration and opinion when they have had their seat taken away from them for corporate reasons and the club lies about the reason why. Just as you are allowed to counter those.

But if you are not a Schimma Level 2 platinum member caught up in this then I ask why are you here? How does this impact you?
Spare the condescending tone that posters on here are "unfairly targeting the club" or they "haven't got the facts right".

It has already been proven the explanation behind the move to take away seating is wrong, as confirmed by the AFL, Carltons membership package and multiple Essendon members (who I believe and have no reason not to).
Draw your own conclusions but consider Norths explanation from their membership staff, our CEO and even our social media manager has chopped and changed all week.
Sadly the AFL, Carlton and Essendons response have been consistent. This has nothing do with the league or the stadium. Its the club.

We like the reserved seats on the wing for the same reason. GA is tough going for little kids whether that be language, aggressive behaviour, or whatever.

Although, a fellow Roos supporter hit my daughter (then 8) in the head after the Richmond win last year (accident swinging scarf whilst drunk), she hasn't stopped complaining about it.

Yeah I suspect you're right on that Jonnoo.

Membership price increases will be a given, such is the cost of replacing the Tassie income and I'm ok with that, as it is to be expected.

The communication around these increases will hopefully be made clear to all members in due course. Preferably before October 25 when the first of the auto renew payments come out.

The counter to this is that there was no reduction when the club removed 2,3 then four games from the 11 game membership.
