That'll fix everything.

I mean, they could have won 2 more games, maybe 3 if they had someone other than Greg the Leg spraying it everywhere. The issue is they should have done this weeks ago BEFORE he cost them games vs Broncos, Bills and Pats. He was terrible in the preseason and its carried into the season. Been plenty of opportunity before now to make a change.

100% the right move. but the whole play the kids before they are ready has hurt him. He was always drafted too early, showed flashes but was as raw as a 1st round QB has been in a long time. needed to sit for a few years and be developed.

Good thing about Flacco being there is that Richardson will still be able to take most reps at practice to develop other then Wednesday gameplan install where you need QB1 taking all the reps.

It never occurred to me that benching Richardson spelled the end for him.

I think we're finally starting to see the impact of spread-heavy and option-heavy college offences, and QBs just not being NFL ready when they come out because college isn't really preparing them for it.

Jayden Daniels is going to be your exception - Goff and Love and Geno and Darnold and Baker are more likely to be the norm, where they do become the extremely serviceable "better than the mean" NFL QBs, but it doesn't happen in year 1 or 2.

edit: had to edit a typo, it was driving me insane.

My concern with Daniels was always that he can panic a bit when the pocket collapsed and run and fight for extra yds leading to him taking some huge hits. Which he has cleaned up so far.

I dont think Love would be as good if he was thrown in as a rookie to play, and Mahomes was lucky enough to sit a year behind Smith on a team that was already good with a top 10 OL. Even sitting that one year helps gives them 60/70% of practice reps. they might even run some scout team on Wednesdays to get used to calling NFL plays and reading NFL defenses. While Alex Smith was never the best QB he knew what he was doing and was willing to teach and help Mahomes break down film.

First round picks you are risking too much putting them out early with the failure rate, ease them in and while the fans might not like it, if you can fix some issues and build on the strengths you get the player you drafted. Its not a secret why some teams are taking QB's top 10 every 4 years and starting them in the first month or so, part bad coaching part not giving them time and hard to play catch up as a QB when you were not ready to start.

The biggest issue - which is replicated here - is that many fans also want to see the future early and to be great from the get-go

Clubs sell merchandise on hope so to fulfill that hope they push players forward earlier than required. When clubs like Washington have had little success for decades its easy to see why they do what they do.

and impatient fans are stuck in the cycle of suck because they push the team to play someone who isnt ready.

Their defense still sucks imo.
Lions should beat us easy. Love banged up again and Alexander also hurt.

Lions will put it away in the first half and then since we are a 2nd half team might make it look respectable.

I reckon Love was also helped by getting a shitload of first team practice reps over those couple years too. Rodgers had that toe where he barely practiced for a massive stretch, I think there was something else too but can't remember exactly what else but Rodgers was limited at practice for most of his last two years I feel.
