Lets all agree that ALL SPORTS shouldn't rely on tax payers money for new grounds or stadium upgrades.
If any sport wants a stadium upgrade that sport or sports that share that stadium should pay for it, and the same applys to new sports stadia as well.

State owned assets are used by the state to drive tourism and economic growth - wheree do music promoters stand in this world of yours? This is particularly true regarding the MCG/Docklands, Adelaide Oval, and Perth Stadium.

Reckon hardly anyone would agree with that. It is a role of government to use taxpayer money for infrastructure to support sports, the Arts, etc. Without it, the AFL would be playing mainly to a Tv audience in small stadiums, and there would be no touring music acts. Our society would be far worse off.

Including schools and hospitals, which should be the priority.

  • Taxpayers contributing to democracies actively want their tax dollars spent on stadiums, because they see it as an actively good and preferred use of their tax dollars, and we live in a democracy after all.
  • While economic justification can be a bit rubbery at times, there is a truthful foundation to it, and taxpayer dollars spent on stadiums can be a good and justified economic expenditure.

Well for starters, it's a gathering point for the local community that's bigger than any other. And when a city has it's own team on the national stage, that gathering point brings the city together in a passionate and positive way.

W.r.t. stadia Australian Rules Football has (nearly) always benefitted by the synergy with cricket thus the infrastructure build benefits two huge sports plus quite a number of other sports, entertainment and even religious productions.

The new Perth Stadium is widely praised around the world as great for all sports yet the those in the eastern states wont build a stadium that benefits the most people and the cost is carried by the most people.

NRL blockbuster points to exciting future for rugby league in WA

Excitement is building for NRL's return to Perth in 2024, with the Queensland-based Dolphins and Sydney Roosters to go head-to-head tonight at HBF Park.

Tickets are now sold out, with a record-breaking crowd expected.

"This event will break records at the venue in terms of public sales for a sporting event,"

NRL legend Wayne Bennett, who is in Perth as the Dolphins' head coach, has recently backed Perth to be part of NRL's planned expansion, saying WA is "very rugby-league aware now" and should be the home of one of the new teams.

Comments attributed to Premier Roger Cook:
"As a passionate rugby league fan, I've long been an advocate for NRL in WA.

"Perth has a strong tradition of supporting NRL teams, with local fans historically developing a strong connection with our visiting 'home' teams.

"With the game now sold out, it further illustrates the strong support and huge potential for growth of rugby league in WA."

Comments attributed to Sydney Roosters CEO Joe Kelly:
"This match is another opportunity for West Australians to show the NRL that they deserve a team as part of future expansion plans."

Hopefully Perth gets to be the 18th NRL team. But I am confused how this game has sold more tickets than the sold out Matilda’s or Women’s Soccer World Cup games, when there has been no capacity increase to Perth Oval.

20,027 attendance for NRL in Perth. Is that a good omen for a Perth team to start playing in the 2027 season.

Let’s not even mention HBF Arena in Joondalup where West Perth play in the WAFL.

Haha this is actually true....I was there last night for swimming and there was a jim Jeffries show on. With a few people floating around in NRL jerseys.

HBF aren't renewing naming rights so it won't be long before it won't be HBF stadium though.
