Fantasy is different, still wouldn't offer that much though... though lets see which QB I fall in love with first though...
QB one of the few positions I'm actually sort of set at. A trade would make sense for both of us.

The Patriots have a coaching vacancy, for the first time in 24 years. And, on paper, there should not be a search.

Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the Patriots “established a firm, contractual succession plan in a prior contract.”

The NFL has confirmed that this continues to be a legitimate tactic to eliminate the need for a search that fully complies with the Rooney Rule, which currently requires two interviews with external minority candidates.

“The club would need to have language in the succeeding coach’s contract that is filed with the league prior to that season,” an NFL spokesperson told PFT in an email.

When this fairly considerable loophole to the Rooney Rule has been used in the past (e.g., when the Seahawks made Jim Mora the head coach in 2009, when the Colts made Jim Caldwell the head coach in 2009, and when the Ravens made Eric DeCosta the G.M. in 2018), the promotion has happened automatically. In this case, however, Rapoport characterizes Mayo as simply a “strong candidate” to replace Bill Belichick, “if he is the choice.”

But Mayo is already the choice. The succession plan has been put in place. Mayo is the next coach.

Unless he isn’t.

Per the NFL, if the Patriots decide not to follow through on the pre-existing commitment to elevate Mayo, that “would be an issue between the club and coach.”

In other words, the Patriots want to go in another direction (e.g., if they want to hire Mike Vrabel), they’ll have to work it out with Mayo. They’ll have to deal with whatever is in Mayo’s contract, if he doesn’t get the job now that the job has become open.

Basically, Mayo has already been promised the job. The team can un-promise him the job, but there could be contractual ramifications. And it could be expensive for the Patriots. But if owner Robert Kraft decides to pivot from Mayo to, say, Vrabel, it would be simply a cost of doing business.

Sometimes it happens that you find the one outside of your short list or supposed natural successor.

Mike Tomlin wasnt even considered a genuine candidate for the job. The Steelers already had someone else in mind they wanted, (dunno who), but were blown away by Tomlin who probably was a Rooney Rule interview

I said it a couple of weeks ago, Harbaugh would fit. A no BS coach to harden the up and win before he the crunch turns the locker room against him because of how hard he works people and players start to tune out his same old speeches.

Also to keep Harbaugh away my Herbert 🙏

Don't think Howie is keen on strong personalities and handing over some power. More likely to be one of the young hot OCs

Internally they must already know or realized that he's just no good

Sounds like someone who wants all the credit rather than share the glory.

Why do you think they got Sirianni? Everyone said he was just a puppet hire at the time.

Aiyuk criminally under used like I said, PFF agree. Hes the one major surprise probably to most

Aiyuk rise to star wideout is one of the main reason i am still on fence with Purdy. He has best weapons in nfl to work with with 2 pro bowl level talent wideouts in aiyuk and deebo and kittle at te end all 3 had over a 1000 yards receiving on the year. Then throw in best all round rb in CMC you couldnt ask for a better group to throw to.

What an uninspired hire.
I wouldnt say that. He's been talked up as impressive for a couple of years now, the Pats played keep away with him last offseason putting something extra in his contract so he rejected other teams HC interviews, his side of the ball performed very well with a shitty offense. All signs point to there being something there.

Aaron Donald over Madubuike is a terrible decision but expected.
Good to see Quincy Williams make the 1st team, well deserved.
Hamilton has had a very good year but putting him ahead of Bates in the first team seems stupid.
Prescott over Purdy in the second team? Hmmmmm

It was a chance for a full reset and new beginning for Patriots instead they went for an inhouse guy after not even checking to see if their is anyone out there better.

Plus the defense is fine its the offense that needs work why i think they should of hired an offensive mind coach.

I think Kraft promised him the job if Bill left and he just followed thru on that promise. Nice to see in this day and age.

(Kraft may have got an email from the NFL telling him not to do a black coach dirty also, they don't need those optics)
