I think that 51% is in there for a reason, they plan to get a look at him this year at some point. (unless Russ plays lights out of course but who is honestly expecting that?)

For 2024 it's a good backup plan. Fields can fill in with plays designed for him or start capably (not greatly) for an injured or out of form Wilson, and makes the offense more dynamic at least.

But if Fields plays well and Wilson doesn't, the Steelers have an issue because they'd have to take on his expensive 5th year option if they intend to stick with him and let Wilson hit FA.

It would probably be better for them financially if Wilson finds his mojo and thus trade Fields mid-season, for a good pick considering what they spent on him, and try to draft again a franchise QB.

You never know, Fields could end up figuring it all out at the Steelers and reclaim a good career. Or, the entire cheap plan of Wilson and Fields could blow up in their face, with both sucking so bad the Steelers have to let both go.

I think Steelers will definitely draft a mid to late round QB in 2024 in case of that. Hit on a Purdy that gives them something for start of 2025 in case.

Because as we all know, a gem QB is crucial to not just making the playoffs but going thru the playoffs.

That MF made a pro bowl. I wish i was surprised but then again the Patriots did just trade away a Pro Bowl QB in Mac Jones for pocket change. everyone is getting pro bowls now.

Reckon DTR might soon get traded. Adding Winston and Huntley makes him expendable.
For what. I dont think there is any value there. teams would sign him if cut. but giving up draft capital for a backup/3rd string that has like 1 start a month out from the draft is bad business.

I loved his UCLA tape but i dont see a trade market for him given how low QB trades unless its like a 7th round pick swap.

Yeah it would only be something like a 7th. But that's better than nothing. Many teams out there could do with a young backup option with potential....Raiders, Broncos, Bears even, Dolphins, etc.

I think Winston makes the most sense to be traded not DTR. Huntley probably a good mentor for him. How often do you see QB rooms 3 vets deep? Not often. Usually always one development project or rookie/young starter for teams that keep 3 QBs.

the whole thing is dumb. everyone does it. and thats why teams dont report others for tampering.

The Tom Brady/Miami one was only a story because of a paper trail about the potential ownership stake. [also Miami got a fine and lost the 1st round pick, were not made to give the pick to the Pats so i dont understand how the Vikings would get a pick other then a possible comp pick next year]
Nobody at the NFL is dumb enough to think these day1 FA deals are all done in the 2 "legal tampering" days.

If we are going after players and taking picks away for tampering, at least make it even and go after the owners for collusion with capping contracts of positions at times.
