THOUGHTS on Richmond's picks?
Lalor, Langford, Smillie and Dattoli are great picks.

It's just me, but I'm keen for the Tigers to add pace and elite kicking to that lot and I really don't rate the KPP's available above those types. So players like Lindsay, Berry and Oliver are higher on my wish list. Hotton is desirable for everything else bar his kicking (as was pointed out to me) so....

Instead of Trainor---Lindsay
Instead of Shanahan----Hotton
Instead of Whitlock----Gerreyn
Should have traded Moraes for a later pick and an F1 (if possible)

I get why you went with 3 talls, but we desperately need a ruck/forward either Sims or Gerreyn fit but Gerreyns upside is huge. We're reasonably set with our defensive talls and our 2nd and 3rd tall forwards are showing promise. We can obviously improve down back and a top line KPF is a must. There're a few irons in the fire though and with future trading, pick trading (salary cap) and the high probability that we'll be down the bottom of the pile for a couple of years which gives us the capital to hit the FA market hard next year and the year after.

No, actually we only have 4 spots for ND, then 2 in the rookie draft. So, in reality, a trade of this nature would have needed to be made before the ND spots are finalised. I am effectively replicating that outcome.

I would think that in the next week or so, GWS will either:
  • bundle up 2 (or even more) picks to grab an earlier round 1 pick, OR
  • trade a single pick (#16, 21, or 37) into 2025.
Otherwise we will simply lose pick #53, which seems a waste.

I think #37 is a big chance to be moved because of the risk that Logan Smith will be bid before then; but we might take the risk and simply have a trade out ready to go on the night. #37 for a F2 from a team likely to be at the pointy end of next year's ladder is a good result, and GWS will hope that they actually do poorly and it becomes more valuable.

I could have just taken a selection here and not worried about the reality of list spots (I had someone in mind until the trade offer popped up), but this mock draft has given me some thoughts so happy to make the trade.

I'd also note that with the revised points system to match academy and father/son bids, I suspect second round picks will become more valuable in future (vice currently third round picks). This trade would add a third second-round pick in 2025 for Giants - I see this would be creating value in possible trades for round 1 picks next year (Lions and Suns, for example, will likely do their usual trade back to increase points for guys like Annable & Uwland).

Does that make sense?
Great response thank you.
I understood the logic re pick 37 and Logan Smith.
I didn't realise that Peatling was on the rookie list and thought that with him Perryman Cumming Haynes Fahey Keefe and Preuss all off the senior list that the Giants were likely to take 5 or 6 picks in the national draft.
I would like the Giants to get pick 8 or 9 via a pick swap with a view to getting Travaglia but also like what you have done with the first 3 picks in this phantom draft.
I also wouldn't mind getting Ben Patton as a DFA or rookie.
Thanks again for the detailed response.

Hah, well my explanation was prior to today's additional cuts and hence went out the window when the club delisted Keeffe and Fahey from the main list (plus Wehr off the rookie list) with a view to picking them up in the rookie draft. So, we're now up to 6 picks in the ND, and #74 gets activated.

Potentially, though we only take 4 picks and run with 36 on the main list (we traditionally run 1 or 2 lower than the limit); or take 5 and run with 37.

Jack Whitlock is a Fwd/ruck which is why I targeted him Moraes was rated a top of 5 pick at the start of the season he capable of being one of the best players in this years draft in years to come

I honestly feel you're need for KPP'ers is a massive need I took 3 of the best available you need to balance your picks out you have no depth in that area you can't just draft midfielders

Sorry for the delay....Just got back from taking the kids Trick or Treating

Syd - Jasper Alger

The McGovern brothers come from Albany, just a Stewie Dew drop kick or two down the highway.
haha.....true just a mere 329km away..... WA is a big joint. But in all seriousness good luck hosting AFL matches at Hands Oval, Bunbury......even with the redevoplment, it has a very small capacity. Surely NM has a huge untapped supporter base in Vic? Or not?

37. Geelong - Lachie Jaques
38. Carlton - Noah Mraz
39. Essendon - Gabriel Stumpf
40. West Coast - Champion (Bid Matched)
