Looks it’s a fair way out and very early. But he fits a big need. Right age for what they want to do.

In saying that, MA could break out and it’s all done and dusted as he is a sun.

But it’s worthy shaking the GC tree and see what shakes loose. They have so much talent and are only getting more.
Mac playing fwd now, interesting.

This isnt true.

If he landed a few of the options he was after in the offseason, we would be playing 2 rucks and they would be Marshall level of competent forwards - i.e Not very good

makes it difficult with style of footy RTB is developing, a hard two way running style.

can’t see 2 rucks leaning towards this game plan, but also noting just given they tried and failed landing another ruckman during offseason, this doesn’t necessarily mean they intended to play 2 rucks (might’ve just been trying to add more depth as a contingency)

Goldstein wasn’t spoken too about coming here to play a depth role.

Lycett wasn’t asked to move interstate for similar.

They were spoken to about forming a duo with Marshall

Rapt that Enright has re-signed. Despite our love for Banga, Lenny and BJ I think Enright is more important. A new contract might not mean a lot if a senior gig comes up as teams tend to let their assistants go in that case. But it's great he's recommited to the Saints anyway. Got a lot of time for him and he's clearly Lyon's 2IC.

Nailed it imo
Totally agree. Has amongst AFL ruckman one of the lowest hit outs numbers to advantage.
Interestingly, Saints lost games last year when these rucks played, McInerney x2, O’Brien x1, Witts x1, Nankervis x1, Briggs x2, Gawn x1 and Reeves x1. Saints won when Witts, Nankervis, Briggs and Reeves didn’t play.
I wonder whether the mid field would benefit from having a true ruckman in the team rather than a good follower.

Gold Coast have 2 very very good rucks. Moyle should be a target for us. We could play him first ruck and play Marshall around the ground and back up. Extend his career out.
Problem is, Marshall is not a very good forward.

So you'd be taking him out of his best position for a player that isn't as good in that position?

I love Ro but we could certainly do with another tap ruck like Ryder.

Hopefully Keeler becomes that player

And you can verify this?

So if we are to play along with the "bottom four" commentators let's go with 2023. Gold Coast 9 wins. 3.5 games off 8th.

If we were to have what we'd all consider right now a horror season, would we take 4th live pick in the draft going into 2025?

Would that be our Joel Selwood that delivers 3 flags?

Personally I'd like to stick it up those and drive now to top 4 and attract a trade/free agent.

In no world do I see us only winning 9 games with a relatively healthy list unless we lose another 8 by under 2 goals. Possible but would think unlikely to lose that many close ones with our Marvel quota.

Everyone just gets kentstruck by the few kids that start fast. Monty is tracking just fine and about to hit 50 games. He was pretty poor in his first or 2nd year but that was just a composer issue. I think peeps just remember that year and haven't updated.
You seem to have a decent Handel on the situation, can you get Bach to us with more details about those issues - they've got somewhat Haydn beneath the hysteria.

Nankervis played in the game we beat Richmond. We also beat GWS with Briggs in the side.

Brisbane and Melbourne were superior teams no matter who their ruckman was while Adelaide beat many teams better than us at Adelaide Oval.

Yes Melbourne told Grundy the same thing regarding playing with Gawn, They had previously pulled the same trick with Preuse. The reality was that they both played magoos, as back up for if Gawn went down.

I am an absolute AFL media nuffie. I read heaps, watch heaps, and engage with most AFL media platforms. Opinion, news, you name it.

But the one ‘genre’ of AFL media stories that I think are absolutely pointless are pre season ladder predictions. They are not worth the digital paper they are written on, and are completely irrelevant the moment round one starts.

I have no idea why anyone would get hot under the collar about some idiot’s ill informed, crystal ball prediction.

Zero chance of us being bottom 4. Absolutely zero.

I think bottom 4 is very unlikely. But I could see us finishing anywhere from 6th to 12th.

I get that we all believe the team is flying over summer but so will just about every other team. Fact is, every supporter has the giddy optimism at the start of a season and generally over rates their own team and under rates the rest of the comp. Most teams in 2025 will be improved on 2024. It's going to be real log jam in those middle ladder positions.
