May the Bombers ever remember him as the one that got away.Lucky for us Ross saw through the BS and knows he can turn him into something special..
Couldn't agree more. These types always attract bitter snipers, but they are galvanised against all that noise. Hopefully he achieves all his goals with us.Phillipou has the attitude of the greats.
He knows what he wants and he’s not afraid to voice what he wants because he knows he is going to put in the work to achieve it.
He’s modelled himself on the greats of other sports, and that shines through in his personality. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be the best it’s just not culturally accepted because in Australia it’s cooler to not try achieve nothing than it is to try and fail.
Looking at his highlights it just reeked if a gun player. He seemed like the next Bont. It's nuts that he slid all the way to us, not just the Bombers passed him a bunch of others will also be regretting it we hope.Phillipou has the attitude of the greats.

FMD it's a painful read with some of the over the top opinions.
I think we’re rightly excited about a kid whose ambition matches his potential. Doesn’t mean he’ll come on to be the superstar we hope but it’s a refreshing change from hoping we turn Ledger, Crocker, Curren and Langlands into more than what they could beJust the usual pre-season stuff. It's a bit like religion...you can say anything the eff you want cos who can prove you wrong. Everyone's a superstar, that is why we are so successful.
Just hope everyone is right. One year they will be. Not sure it will be 2024.

That's why Hugo Garcia is going to be the pick of the bunch from this year's crop. Future 5x All Australian, 8x Trevor Barker winner, 4x Brownlow medallist, 0x premiership playerFor sure. Draft and pre-season is always exciting. But it all means nothing in 4 months time. Read the last 12 years of pre-season threads, they all read pretty much the same. The messiahs have been variously Billing, Acres, Paddy, Clark. Was a huge rush on Hill for a bit too. Funnily enough, the players that have actually gone on to big things weren't so heralded early days - Marshall, Sinclair (was steak knives with JB), Wilkie, Steele.
Fair call though - with NAS, Pou, Windy, King, Owens etc - there is a chance we'll get a better outcome.
It’s no surprise the Pou was born in Dec 27 , just following his gm father, Jesus ‘s footstepsFMD it's a painful read with some of the over the top opinions.

Anyone know who Collards manager is?I don't think Mattaes is a flight risk. From memory in his pre draft interviews he said he wants to play in Melbourne under the spotlight and in the big games (no surprise), and whilst we aren't a big club I think for him winning the Saints second ever flag would be a huge motivator.
Collard absolutely is though. Hopefully Hilly and Henry help him settle as best as possible, two WA lads that chose to live in Melb.
Was mooted on here that Collard was possibly keen to leave WA for social reasons.I don't think Mattaes is a flight risk. To an extent, but I think the names mentioned in the past showed they were followers throughout their entire career. I can’t remember a preseason where any of those guys jumped out of the box. This crop we’ve got aren’t waiting for someone to give them permission, they’re setting the standards and raising the bar.For sure. Draft and pre-season is always exciting. I wouldn't forget about the shift in club culture having a significant effect on that either. To an extent, but I think the names mentioned in the past showed they were followers throughout their entire career. They’re not leaving their development to chance, or ‘natural progression’ they’re going out and making it happen.
Really good point and well saidI think at times like this its even more important to recognise how important it is to have guys like Wood and Hill and how sometimes quality charctar guys is just as important as the football ability.
It is well known how important Wood has been to Nas and now the Pou and you can see with some of his wafl coaching and the interviews how much of a uality guy he is. Simmilarly, and I have been one of Hill's biggest critics, you can see how well how well he gets along with the young guys and hosting Henry and Collard is massiv ein making them feel comfortable. I assume when Paddy was around it was simmilar.
Even having Chito's mum cooking team dinners, the more of this the better.
I wouldn't forget about the shift in club culture having a significant effect on that either.
The 3 that stick out are Windy, Chito and Pou and for each of them there's a very large helping of good fortune that landed them at the saints. But had they arrived in the Richo era I'm not confident we'd ever see their best.
I agree with your mate about Roos. The cultural shift has been huge. Paul Roos and Ross Lyon are probably not that technically brilliant strategic coaches but both know how to bring a really defined focus on the right areas of the football club and get everyone in the same line working towards a known goal. I was chatting to a Dees mate on Cup day and he was saying that he gives Roos more credit for their premiership than Goodie.
Lyon and Roos have a system not just a game plan. Guys like Malthouse, Pagan etc had strategy but not a whole club approach and failed when moving clubs. You can't just throw a good coach into a poorly run club and expect success.
I would like to refute this as per a conservation I heard at Wednesdays training .... that a major figure down at the Club was part of .... and that I was in earshot of ..... which went along the lines of ......Was mooted on here that Collard was possibly keen to leave WA for social reasons.
Also the talk we were prepared to take him with our 1st would suggest we'd put enough time into him to mitigate some of that risk.
Fair enough, but that doesn't negate what l posted.I would like to refute this as per a conservation I heard at Wednesdays training .... that a major figure down at the Club was part of .... and that I was in earshot of ..... which went along the lines of ......
We were wanting a ruckman but due to the ones we wanted were already gone ..... we picked Collard with that 2nd pick
