Training 2024 Pre-Season

Anyone who cant see that Phillipou will be an absolute super star are not watching all his games. He had some quiet moments and was probably lucky to play every game, but Lyon knows what he has on his hands and backed him in. Its not hard to see how Phillipou will be a more dynamic and aggressive version of Bontempelli, given his protracted career.

For the first time in years we are starting to get high end young talent in to compliment our senior group. This years recuits are more evidence of how well the club are being managed list wise. The SEN pundits have written us off as over achievers this year, crikey they have short memories. We were in the top 8 all year even with the 2nd worst injury run of all clubs.

Im really confident about 2024, we will put those questions to bed and show the competition we will become serious contenders!

Like to reinforce what has been posted numerous times, Pou is still 18, should have been in this years draft.
Played 24 games and has a preseason under his belt.
The cockiness is not a problem, saw it knocked out of him starkly on the big stage facing the rampant GWS mids. I stick by that he was given a HUGE lesson in what it takes to play with his big boy pants on. I dont see cockiness, I see determination and that lesson would have given him 10 games extra experience.
If he had of been drafted a year before I would be worried about him going home, however the training and the coaches are like chalk and cheese comparing Ratten to Lyon.
I am excited what Pou did in his rookie year, the fact he failed in the biggest game of his life, the fact he has a full season under his belt and he has an aim to be the best in the AFL. Will he achieve that? Don't know, but love the determination.

It’s a minefield in bayside at present I’ve had covid or some crap where I’ve coughed for over two week straight plus the pollen has been off the charts. Who knows why he wanted a drink the main point is he ran well, the fact he wanted to wet his whistle after a lap is neither here nor there. Do we count how many times a trainer runs a drink out during a game?.
Saints supporters late-stage 2023. Your drink breaks are our psychosis.

Top 8 all year.
2nd worst injuries.
1st/2nd/3rd younget 22 most weeks.
King missing half the season
Membrey most of the season
Steele running on 7 cylinders with a smashed coller bone.
No Jones again
Etc
Etc
Etc

1x best 22 lost in trade
2x best 22 gained back

We'll play finals again. The commentators will say we over achieved again.

Our midfield depth got tested again for the second year in a row. Crouch the only full time mid to play the bulk of the season at 100% fitness. Seb Ross isn't everyone's favourite player but having him out meant another rotation down.

I reckon we covered most other losses but that midfield depth looked like it held us back. Dow is a massive addition if he can stay fit.

Put money on us, most of the market haven't got a clue.

$8.00 to make the top 4
$2.50 to make the top 8

Sydney is at $3.00 and $1.57

We're on $21 to play in the grand final, Essendon are on $15.

Not saying any of those are sure things, just that the odds are skewed against us due to flogs betting on their own teams.

Agreed. Dow is an important addition. An underrated inclusion imho

pou is the furthest thing from cocky, he comes off more wide eyed and keen to learn/work, while also believing in himself.

Also he loves lyon and clearly thinks ross will get the best out of him. The contract stalling is purely manager driven, hoping pou puts up 20 and 1 in the first 10 games allowing him to sign for big dollarydoos. Which would be bloody fantastic!

Agree completely.

No chance he leaves. None. Nada.

At draft time he came across cocky. When asked who he'd take with pick one he said himself. His family is Eastern European and culturally they have less filter though. They say what they think with less pissing around with diplomacy and manners like we do coming from an English cultural base.

He's disarmingly honest at times and that can look like cockiness. He's refreshing in footy because he doesn't talk in platitudes and he doesn't try to bluff anyone. He happily told the world that his dad was super involved in his footy and really drove and directed him. Lots of clubs would have looked at that on face value and said cocky kid with a tennis dad and marked him down for it. Kids with media training would have just repeated the shit the manager told them to say to look humble and dedicated.

If you look deeper he's a kid with a drive to be the best and a dedication to craft and excellence. Either way it's lucky for us that he seems to have ended up with us. He's got the attitude to be a champ and his skills look like they certainly match it so far. He said he wanted play like Bont when he was drafted. I'd take that.
