Training 2024 Pre-Season

Also an Aussie expat now living in Ireland! We're out west, where there's probably several dozen Irish words for 'wet'. Who knew, two Saints tragics sitting in the rain-soaked mother country studiously studying the BigFooty pre-season reports at night for that brief (but worthwhile!) hit of hopium...

Way I see the weather here is:

Glass half-full: 1/3 of the year is basically a write-off (Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb). The other 2/3's exist somewhere between bearable and bloody marvellous.

Glass half-empty: foetal position take me home to Australia now else I'll likely perish during the night (which lasts for 16 hours).

Good place though, for all it's quirks!

My god...I thought I was the only one. Were you stolen by a woman too? Where abouts out west? I lived in Sligo for a couple of years. Lovely place, when you could see it through the rain and darkness.

I am enjoying it.

Just not willing to anoint windy the next captain without delivering anything on field yet.

I'm with you. As much as I am enthusiastic about these young guys, we have tended to go far too early on young talent. Recently, the club's and fans' early annointment of promising young players as "stars" led to their subconscious complacence.

I will certainly be enjoying the ride no doubt, but all these guys are is promise so far. One thing I hope that the Lyon regime brought back is truly exacting standards and never letting up until we get there.

Great facilities & coaching group in a very nice bayside location - we really should be a destination club - absolutely no excuses for the players

Nas and Owens are on the cusp of superstardom.

Windy hasn’t even had a break out game.

Yet Windhager has cracked 30 possessions and Owens hasn't yet. Nas done it twice.

Not sure that’s a good indication mate. Will Brodie racks the touches up and he has had 1 good season in his career.

I think Windy goes okay. Was pretty consistent during the back half of last season. May not be a highlight reel just yet, but he's tracking nicely...what he does, he does well.
Hopefully jumps out of the blocks next season.

Windy miles ahead of both those two mentioned, his back half of the year was very good he is coming along nicely

He had a huge game keeping Lachie Neale quiet in his first year. That looked like a breakout game to me.

But he fell behind Owens and NAS last year.

IMO a new captain and leadership group from that crew would not surprise me. If not now, then next year.

I thought last season was going to be Windy's year. He was flying during pre season then broke his hand and seemed to lose all momentum.
Hopefully this year he gets a clean run at it.

How good are the facilities, it's such a terrific place for our players, and goes up another level when we play competitive games there.
