I've always enjoyed these posts if I'm honest. The idea that an AFL website content writer even would bother going to watch any club’s January training session scrimmage work surprises me.
The fact he then turns into a 5 minute AFL “analysis” website article is kinda weird.
Since when was a club’s January training session worthy of an analysis piece?
After all, we were playing against …..each other, in bibs.
Josh Gabelich is in real danger of breaking out with an actual case of professional journalism - something rarely seen in any sphere these days…The idea that an AFL website content writer even would bother going to watch any club’s January training session scrimmage work surprises me.

I agree with Mr Lizard , and it's really hard to tell specially when he gave me not one but two thumbs up straight right after the training.According to Ch 9, CJ hurt his hand at training & came off the track early. Any insights?
Josh is one of the good ones.Josh Gabelich is in real danger of breaking out with an actual case of professional journalism - something rarely seen in any sphere these days…
I will say that Gabelich is an AFL journalist who does the research. He's often at the club once a fortnight for press conferences with Sam and watches training as well. Wasn't anything out of the ordinary to see him. There'll be an article about Chol as well I believe as he was interviewing him post match Sim.The idea that an AFL website content writer even would bother going to watch any club’s January training session scrimmage work surprises me.

Some of the participants in todays training.
Most likely than not, those three might also feature in the intra. Two weeks in a row for Kye
Always seems very pro Hawks as well.Josh is one of the good ones.
40 rolled ankles at anytime nowHope I don't jinx it but this seems to be the healthiest our list has been in late January in a long time.
Hardwick is an excellent backman. Our backline will be the poorer for his shift to the forward line. The question is will his shift to the forward line outweigh his loss to the backline? Not a done deal IMO but worth a try. With Hardwick going forward it certainly leaves a gap but Amon moving in there too.
In my mind Massimo, Seamus and Bailey McDonald are fighting for the same spot. Ryan probably behind scrimshaw as a medium. But seems an ideal match up for those big mids that push forward like Bont, Reid.

Your math doesn't incorporate whoever takes Hardwick's place in defence. It's not like he's just a loss to the backline and a positive to the forwardline. He'll be replaced down back by someone like Amon who will provide a different sets of traits (less defence, more run, similar awesome kicking). So while he'll be a "loss", how much of a loss is still to be seen.Hardwick is an excellent backman. Our backline will be the poorer for his shift to the forward line. The question is will his shift to the forward line outweigh his loss to the backline? Not a done deal IMO but worth a try.

Gotta say for his age Gunners is still in ripping nick.DGB looks getting stronger from the waist down, but hopefully he canhave a breakout season.

He has had a bit of history over his career of having the odd "off" year like he had with the Lions last year.
But then he has always followed up with a strong year the following season.
Hopefully we get the same pattern in 2024, he really is a gifted footballer when up and running.
He's a Collingwood supporter unfortunatelyBringhimhome.gif ?
Seamus has only played, 14 games but there is a bit of Hardwick about him. I would say he is the closest we have as a like for like playerIt is also odd to me. No other Hawthorn small player last year was seen consistently having success in that defensive lock down role imo. Nobody played tight like Dimma.
And you would think that H'wick is the man needed to train his replacement.
And whenever our backline got too inexperienced in 2023 it often led to chaos.
For H'wick to stay forward not only does he have to prove he is a benefit but also his replacement has to avoid becoming a deficit. Both are relatively unknown.
Dunno about anyone else but I’d rather we boast a Coleman medallist in our forward line in 2024 than a 33 years old Jack.It was when Jack Gunston came to the club that I realised we were destined for a dynasty. And it was Jack that made me believe Buddy could leave and we would get better. Coleman medalists are easier to find than a player like Jack; in football terms he is a unicorn.
That's the thing. We don't really have a like for like player. In round 1 v Essendon Hardwick would be the best match-up for Stringer. Whatever you think of Stringer, if he's fit and in form, he's a match winner. If Hardwick goes forward and Stringer gets off the chain in their forward line I'd love to be a fly on the wall listening to the discussion in the coach's box.Seamus has only played, 14 games but there is a bit of Hardwick about him. Frost should be able to look after StringerThat's the thing. We don't really have a like for like player. In round 1 v Essendon Hardwick would be the best match-up for Stringer. Who says Frost is best 22 for R 1.?Frost should be able to look after Stringer
