It is also odd to me. No other Hawthorn small player last year was seen consistently having success in that defensive lock down role imo. Nobody played tight like Dimma.

And you would think that H'wick is the man needed to train his replacement.

And whenever our backline got too inexperienced in 2023 it often led to chaos.

For H'wick to stay forward not only does he have to prove he is a benefit but also his replacement has to avoid becoming a deficit. Both are relatively unknown.

Not sure you can chalk it up to just misfortune. I can’t see that he would’ve played the amount of games he has had he stayed at GWS or Melbourne once they became more successful. A rebuilding team is about his level. That’s not a knock on the guy, he’s played an important role in the rebuild.

Yeah I agree, he's spent most of his career playing for poor sides - and two of them moved him on when they started they became stronger. But again I'm not blaming him for the losses.

At least Frosty tries.
He cares about the result and the way he plays.
Put it this way - I'd rather a bloke who wears his heart on his sleeve but makes the odd mistake, rather than a mercenary like McKay who doesn't give a toss and is on $850,000 PA

Frost plays Rd 1 for mine.

What do Frosty and Bailey Macdonald have in common? Special star for correct answer..

What nonsense. How do you know McKay doesn't give a toss? And no one bar a very small minority of biased Hawthorn fans would be taking Frost over him. The club, Mitchell and McKenzie wouldn't either, obviously.

What are you disagreeing with HoldingThe Ball?

Is it me not believing that you actually know whether McKay gives a toss or not?

Or the part where the club would take McKay over Frost? Which was plainly evidenced by one of those players receiving a massive contract offer from us.

Thanks for the reports.

Geez feels like peak optimism (combined with some silly takes) at present. Might be worth waiting til we actually play some opposition before we judge our progression.

Wouldn’t be surprised if it takes awhile for forward line to gel. It Can take half a season for players to pick up a new system (ginnivan, Chol) and Watson is a rookie. Imagine we are doing all we can at training but nothing beats real opposition.

Fair call , soccer players seem to get back quicker than most. I know a player in a European league that did his ACL in April and came back in late December! There's something in this to look at by AFL clubs imo.
It's a hell of a lot easier to recover from a pretend injury than a real one.

He spoiled a contest, I thought maybe hurt his wrist or shoulder. Was having chat to tent-people but was still a little bit involved in the next play or two so it couldn't have been as serious as say, a rolled ankle.

A more coherent and loquacious track watcher might've taken some notes, I dunno.
But they wouldnt be as erudite or eloquent with the language as you

“Absence makes the heart grow fonder”

I’m afraid my lasting memory of Frost from the ‘23 season was his god awful 1st half v Port.
Papers stamped that day unless he was carrying a major injury.
