Interested in any pre-season training observations about players training in different positions.

Would like to see work being put into getting Bowey free as a distributor rather than a lock down back. Schache and Tmac might as well be training as defenders because we never need to see them forward again, even for Casey.

Would like Woey and Windsor to be shadowing Langdon and Hunter in the hope that one of them goes past Langdon.

Also keen to know where Fullarton is training and which of the other rucks is looking like the first Casey ruck.

Apparently Woey has put on quite a bit of size – reckon there's a chance that they're grooming him for more inside mid minutes (to replace Jordon and Harmes as depth in there).

Doesn't look as big as people had described to me, but definitely has put on some muscle.

TMac was training in the backline apparently.

I've been keen on trying Bowey forward most of this year, but perhaps now with Billings, McAdam, Tholstrup and Windsor on deck it might be less likely.

Agree on your 'wing squad' idea. I'd be keen to see those you mentioned, plus maybe Howes as well, running with Langdon as much as possible.

If they like him as a centre square midfielder then more than happy for them to try that too. Mainly I just don't want to see him go down the Sparrow/Jordon route of having to play half forward when that's not best suited to his skillset.

Same, was also keen to see Bowey tried forward, or pretty much anywhere that's not lockdown defender. But suspect moving him forward now would just see him languish at Casey or as sub.

TMac honestly MUST play back. Our depth down there isn't amazing, and there is no point to having him competing with Brown and Schache to be our depth KPF options.

is the Casey reserves still a thing? Id love to see 2 or 3 of them running around there.
Hasn't been for a couple of years.

Woey looks much trimmer, more defined; not necessarily bigger. Wouldn't mind him getting a run in the guts, but don't turn him into another bullheaded inside mid!

Also like the idea of Bowey forward more. TMc training in D seems sensible

Ventured across to training today with my kid. Feel free to ask questions.
For all the drama that I put the board through sometimes. Here is me contributing:)

Points:
  • Kalani White was watching alongside Jeff White. he'll be a dee in 2 years. Let's just hope he continues to develop. He'd be close to 200cm now.
  • Oliver has done a knee injury or something so he was on the side lines doing exercises and run throughs. He's in good spirits. Joking alongside staff etc. it's good t o see him jovial but at the same time he doesn't have that laser focus. I guess it's hard to have both. At one stage he was chatting to a female fitness trainer and he blew snot out of his nose right in front of her. Call me old school, I just thought he could be a bit more professional. He's carrying about 5-6kg too many and he probably wouldn't be in the round 1 team in the condition he is currently in. To do the run-throughs a member of staff used a measuring wheel to walk out 145m before putting a cone down. Anyway, about 45 mins later (towards the end of Clarry's running session) he ran to the cone, took his allotted break time and then before he set off to run back, he picked up the cone and ran with it to save the staff from having to walk and pick it ups it's probably common practice to do that on the last run through of the session. But when Clarry ran back, the staff member told him it wasn't the last run-through. So Clarry grabbed the measuring wheel and had to measure it all again. Oliver is my favourite player of all time but I sense that it's going to be a fine line between being happy and getting along with staff etc (something he's been in the headlines for) but also being strictly professional (something he's also been in the headlines for. His performances will ultimately do the talking. He came across and said 'gday everyone' as he walked passed some people.
  • Kynan Brown has better foot skills than I thought.
  • Tholstrop looks amazing. He looks much bigger in person than any photos suggest. He was doing run throughs with Kynan Brown, Windsor and Mcadam and the instructions were to run the 145m run-throughs in about 13-14s. He was running them in 11s and sometimes jumping the gun almost every time which would've annoyed me if I was a fellow runner. Selwyn told him off and told him to stick to the instruction of running it in 13-14 seconds. I liked the intensity of Tholstrop in the drill, keen to impress. I also liked the leadership from Selwyn in that moment. I think Tholstrop is a massive chance for Round 1. There I called it. Tholstrop is definitely going to be a character. He was even doing a bit of a dance to the music pumping. High level of confidence, first week on the track.
  • Caleb Windsor looked ok. I was more impressed with Tholstrop tbh but Windsor was getting involved in the full length drills. I saw speed, but maybe not elite, line breaking speed. Decent skills, elite balance.
  • Guys that looked good in the full ground drills: Rivers, Bowey.
  • Laurie has shed some weight and is looking much more confident in the way he carries himself amongst the group. I like what I saw from him.
  • Woewodin is looking much bigger. He has a massive tattoo on his torso now also.
  • ANB, Hunter, Fritsch, Salem, May, Viney, Spargo, Brayshaw, Chandler, Langdon, Tomlinson, Sparrow, Pickett not in attendance.
  • Petty was in attendance but didn't do anything
  • Melksham was rehabbing for like the first 30 min then left. I didn't realise how big he is. Big, toned legs.
  • Tom Mcdonald was in defence in the full ground stuff which is a little scary. I've always hated him in defence due to his decision making.
  • Ben Brown was there. But I've always been a hater. I wished he was just not on the list anymore but whatevs.
  • Jefferson has bulked up but guys, he's another season away. He needs to work on his intensity. There was a 1 on 1 drill, where the whole team was watching 2 guys, contest a high ball. Jefferson outmarked Turner and the boys got around him. It felt like the drill was sort of set up for Jefferson to have a moment. It wasn't but it just seems like he's a quiet kid. I'd like him to be mentored by Steven May and just get some prick in him. I think he still has potential but it's another year in the gym for Jeffo.
  • Overall the energy was generally good considering a lot of the players weren't back. Goodwin was quite vocal in the training.

Had knee surgery post-season.

  • He's carrying about 5-6kg too many and he probably wouldn't be in the round 1 team in the condition he is currently in.

A supporter on Demonland mentioned Oliver said to them at training the other day that he wanted to get his weight down first up.

Thanks for the report.

Wasn't Oliver doing a Commando/Rocky style training with Chandler in SA according to someone on here?

G'day big fella, you can just ask me directly if you like.

So, to clarify for you, the "Rocky IV" part was obviously a joke. It's perhaps a bit subtle for you, I get that.

Also, yes he stayed at the Chandler family farm and did farm work while there. Was all club sanctioned and they even ticked off an agreement that he wouldn't be impacted financially if he got injured while doing it.

Good chat as usual.

Great write up but even Usain Bolt couldn’t run 145m in 13-14 seconds…let alone 11s.

His 150m best is 15.28 so bit of an ask from Selwyn to expect the boys to be faster.

Most funniest and probably bizarre thing I've seen being made up on here.

Cheers for the update.
I saw on DL that’s someone was speaking to Clarry. He was apparently in great spirits and had a recent knee op. Said he needs to lose 5kgs.

BBB and Tmac is an interesting situation. Tmac has been back in the little training there has been to date.

BBB apparently looking really fit and moving well. But we know going by history a knee issue is always around the corner. Let’s hope not.

Great to hear the young guys are going well. I’m only hearing very positive things re Tholstrup.
