Ugly hitout. Looked horrible when we tried to chain handball through the corridor, resulted in 3-4 easy goals against. It looked chaotic and poorly drilled.

Brown and Verrall did some nice things.

Jefferson didn't do much, he went off limping to the bench for a while but has bobbed up with two goals towards the end. one was a nice snap under pressure.

Bit stiff with Sparrow considering he was Pick 27.

Pick 27s on average have played 65 games for their career. Sparrow's already played 74 at age 23 and is a premiership player. Hardly a bust at that spot.

Thanks for the running commentary today, I nearly signed up to kayo to watch the pre season games and it seems like I saved some time and money.

Judging from most comments it seems nothing has changed. Might be a long year ahead.

I'm not blasting them, but i did find it amusing that comparing the draft highlights of Brown and Windsor then in todays game it was flipped. Brown was clean and Windsor turned it over a fair bit

This is just an observation of course, practise game at AFL speed Windsor should adjust after a bit. Brown looks like a good draft steal even for a F/S

Windsor turned it over but I love his intensity, macintosh gave him some professional contact in their matchup and he handled the physicality well. He won ball, his turnovers weren’t ideal but I think his skill is there. It’s pretty hard also when your team doesn’t have much chain marking options forward of the centre.

Yeah i wasn't saying the skill wasn't there. It's harder picking through the zones at AFL level than at TAC. Even the closing speed of players at AFL level would throw him off early days. I think he has the skillset that with more exposure to AFL will get better

Dude, you're doing my head in. Sparrow is a decent player. And Laurie played okay today.

You should be thankful for Sparrow kicking goals from 50m in the 2021 granny to help us win the game in the 3rd qtr. And then set up Brown for the first goal in the 4th quarter. Also kicked a goal in last year QF when no-one else could. Followed it up with a decent effort in the SF. Odd post for you to focus on a player that is actually decent.

I find it very hard to believe that Tim Lamb and Jason Taylor didn't rate any pick after pick 20 yet all the other clubs found 40 other players that they rated higher that Kynan Brown who was fantastic today. Should've cut Ben Brown

He kicked one goal in that granny and has done next to nothing since.

His 12 disposals a game playing in the guts puts us behind from the first bounce.

Yet to have a real breakout game after 74 matches is huge concern. How many are we going to gift him while opposition mids continue to rack up 20-30 touches against him.

He might make it as a half forward but he isn’t close to being the midfield accumulator with clean disposal that we need.

Yeah, I agree. I don't blame them trying to get Reid but it was pretty obvious that parting with pick 27 + 35 for next to nothing was not a part of the plan. It would've been nice to have those 2 picks running around today.

People complained that we were always kicking it long and high to the pockets. Today, I don't think we did that but people are focussing on the skill errors trying to take the game on. I thought we brought the ball through the corridor much more than usual.

Sparrow was in 73% of CBas for a total of 0 clearances.

When is the bloke going to step up.

Not one clearance from 25 CBAs yet Goodwin will roll him out for our first CBA against Sydney no doubt. Any one in any other profession with a 0/25 hit rate would be sacked.

the guy stood up in the finals, in 2021 and last year.

p.s. you ignored my comment about Blease and Strauss.

Sparrow is a good player and has stood up on the big stage in finals. Sure, I'd love it if he got 25 touches instead of his 17 but he's a decent role player. It's not like we invested a top 5 pick in him.

And Sparrow is a better kick than Petracca, Oliver and Viney so not sure what you mean by clean disposals.
