Can't argue with most of that, but he's miles off elite in defensive one on ones. 1.4 per game which is 73rd in the league on average well behind Pearce (who is having an excellent season and definitely worthy of selection in the squad himself) and even behind Draper as far as Freo go.
Sorry contested defensive one on ones

Ryan's also nowhere near elite as far as one percenters go. He's ranked 65 out of all defenders for average one-percenters per game.

I wouldn't say he's elite for either intercept marks or possessions either, though he's not far off.

He is elite for metres gained, disposal efficiency, possessions etc though.

Can we talk about Harris Andrews season so far? I'm obviously bias in that I'd like Weitering to finally be rewarded after multiple years of getting snubbed for the final 22 but I feel like Andrews has been far worse than his individual stat lines look this season.

Lions are having a shocking year so far with multiple key forwards dining out on them throughout that. How much accountability does Andrews hold for that or is it more blamed on his teammates and the dysfunction further afield?

Statistically he's probably the best or close to the best performed KPD right now but in years past KPD's have been overlooked due to their overall team's defense and players from stingier teams have been selected... Stewart's practically been gifted 2 jackets simply by playing for Geelong while their team defense has been a strong point.

There it is.

Hell no.

He's a decent defender who pads his stats with kickouts, chip kicks sideways and long bombs to 50/50 contests. There's no creativity or dare with his disposal at all.

The definition of a Supercoach player. Looks great on paper because of Freo's shitty, risk adverse game plan but does little damage to the opposition.

Joel Bowden MKII
Really didn't like Freo stealing the 2 points hey?

Goals and assists combined round 11:

1. Charlie Curnow 39 (33/6)
2. Jesse Hogan 38 (31/7)
3. Aaron Naughton 34 (22/12)
4. Ben King 33 (32/1)/Jake Waterman (30/3)/Tyson Stengle (23/10)
8. Kyle Langford 32 (28/4)/Christian Petracca (13/19)
10. Jeremy Cameron 31 (21/10)/Izak Rankine (20/11)
Where does Ridley rank? He is coming home with a wet sail.

Its fair enough to ask as the team as a whole is playing poorly especially the mids and forwards are just way down on everything. But like the other poster said Andrews is having an amazing year. The kind of year that is keeping us in games from full back. He is stopping multiple 10 goal loses almost on his own. Also his kicking has significantly improved this year. His ball use used to be a typical tall defender, but he has really stepped up and become a good kick

I haven't watched enough of ever team to say if he is in the best couple of defenders this year, but he is right up there with the best he has played. He should be right about the conversation

Lions defense about the only thing going well this year and Andrews is a massive reason for it

Dont have many thoughts on KPD at this stage, but mate, be careful what you argue.

Teams sorted by worst defences based on points against.....

he plays a different role, not being involved in lots of 1v1 isn't a knock on him, no idea why anyone is using total 1v1 anyway, its what you win them at that matters.

Ryan is a stad padder though and plays awful footy for large portions of the game, likely a Fremantle system thing also.

Brisbane defense are
#1 for opponent shots per game
#5 goals against
#5 marks against i50
#4 for opponent points off turnover
#10 for goals/inside 50 and scores/inside 50

I'm not saying Brisbane have been bad defensively, I'm just saying that points against is overly simplistic.

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't think Weitering should be in the team right now after missing some games and the Blues leaky defense + Not quite being at his intercepting best. I'm more referring to as the season unfolds if Brisbane's overall form persists.

Statistically Andrews would be a lock right now but in the past players performing similarly well have been snubbed due to their teams poor efforts.

Sicily is one that comes to mind in 2022, unbelievable year individually and had a similar effect to Andrews in terms of being a lone hand keeping Hawthorn in games some weeks... But given his team's woes he was overlooked for players in higher finishing teams.

I wouldn't have Andrews a lock, personally the only lock is Sam Taylor, raffle the rest take your pick. If you asked me right now I'd still go Weitering anyway, but Carlton would want to finish high for him.

Ryan is just a taller version of Jake Lloyd in 2019.

Would be a poor selection in the AA side. Makes the SuperCoach team of the year though.

Benefits from Freo's gameplan of kick it around the half back line for 3/4 of the game before realising they are 3 goals down. Actually think Pearce has been their better defender anyway and at least he tries to get it forward
