How is McGovern not getting more love? Ranking elite or above average in a lot of key stats and better than his career average which is elite in key statistics as well. Back to near his best of his All Australian years. If the Eagles were higher up the ladder in the top 6 he'd be a lock.

Good effort but

The 2nd ruck question is always interesting when discussing the AA side. Do they go 2 rucks or 1 main ruck and a forward who can pinch hit? If they go the latter, do they pick the best tall forward and say they can ruck or do they pick the best designated forward ruck ala McLean?

Reward whoever had the better season

1) Either pick the deserving key forward who capably pinch hit as 2nd ruck and kicked a lot of goals but was 3rd in line for a key forward post and just missed out on CHF or FF

2) Or pick the outstanding ruckman who was just shaded by Gawn for the 1st ruck position

If there weren’t any standouts in the above two categories, then just pick Big Maxy as the sole ruckman and load the interchange up with four best players outside of the first 18

2 mids + 1 fwd + 1 def
3 mids + 1 fwd
4 mids

Point being, they shouldn’t get locked into a certain formula for picking the team and force any undeserving players into the 22

Massage the team selection and make sure the most deserving 22 players are rewarded.

The AA selectors have been good at doing this in recent years.

It's not a real team. There's no need for a forward who can ruck or a second ruck. It's an award for the best players in their positions. Just pick the best.

Walsh likely to have more coaches votes then Butters after this round. Already ahead of Rowell, another young player who's had a highly rated season. Could even be ahead of Bont depending on how he goes tonight.

Crazy when consider he has played 4 less games than those guys (only 8 out of 12).

He'll be in the team if he keeps going at this rate but probably can't afford to miss more than 1 game from here on out, given the competitiveness of the midfield spots.

I think if I had to bracket the midfielders based on 2024 I would go:

Top Bracket
Heeney
Daicos

Second Bracket
Bont
Serong
Merrett

Third Bracket
Warner
Cripps
Butters

Then Walsh probably the best of the rest followed by Trac.

Arguments could be made around Trac and Warner being higher, but both haven't been as consistent as the guys above them despite their best games being top shelf.

Get Dylan Moore in the AA side for Rankine (injured) now, I reckon. He and Stengle are brilliant goal sneaks who just get to the right positions and lift their side.

Dylan Moore with the lazy 27 disposals and 5 goals playing across half forward.

That's as close to a complete game as you will find I'd say.

Could have had six but decided to pass it off to the milestone man instead.

Holmes is a good chance of featuring in the coaches votes for the 9th time this season, which would be equal best in the league for number of times listed.

That must have him somewhere in contention. It'll only be capped at squad rather than best 22 for his breakout season though.
