Just a highlight if you plan on driving in - they're encouraging a 5pm early arrival. Parking spaces might go toot sweet.

150 year celebrations officially begin next week as we kick off the 2024 AFL season at the SCG and take on the Melbourne Demons as part of Opening Round on Thursday March 7th.

To kick start celebrations for our milestone year, our 22 players and coaching staff will embark on March to the Match to honour our past, present and emerging athletes, and we need your help in bringing plenty of energy and colour.

We are encouraging you to arrive early to Sydney Swans HQ from 5pm to soak up all the pre-game festivities. We will have the bar open, live music, all your merchandise needs at the Locker Room and interviews with our coaches and players.

We spent great chunks of last season without any talk backs. Lost several tall forwards too. We lost mids as well. Gee, we were basically playing half a reserves side for 6-8 weeks. Some idiot, LM, said we only just beat North, well c'mon Leigh half a team with little depth v bottom team?

Now we have fixed the problems with depth. We have shored up our stocks of talks. Stacked the mids with far more strength. Drafted a rookie first rate ruck. Traded an ex AA ruck.

The comparisons with last year are not even valid. We have far more depth. We have far more confidence. We showed against GWS we can win Clearances & stoppages. We need to prove ghaf again in the next few weeks. I think Grundy will be out for revenge at thx say he was treated at Melbourne. Bring it on

That’s your opinion

Still think we need a jump

15th place after 17 rounds last season

We played horrible most of the year

We do need to rectify the lack of talk backs.

I’ve put a call into John Laws. If he doesn’t ring back, I’ll get onto Ray Hadley.

Looks like it's going to be another hot one next Thursday. If it's also humid resulting in slippery conditions like tonight then I wouldn't play all 3 tall forwards as they weren't effective. I would replace probably an Amartey with a small/medium who will give us more at ground level. A Fox for Amartey.

Our midfield mix will be interesting, surely Heeney is locked into a midfield role after spending most of his time in the mids during the practise matches.

Rowbottom/Heeney as the 2 primary mids with Gulden/Warner/Papley/Sheldrick? in support?

Obviously can't deduce much from praccy matches, let alone in those conditions. But

1. Love to see Florent running and using more off HB. No Lloyd or Ramped yesterday and was still unsighted. Same goes for JMac and Brandon. We had no overlap run last night, which was amplified by Lloyd and Warner not being in.

2. Rowbottom is a beast and super clean BUT plays as a defensive mid due to his role in the team which is fair.

3. Keep Heeney deep. Yesterday's forward half performance was insipid but you had limited Heeney (playing upfield due to the outs) Paps out and Hayward went off early.

4. Can't play a ruck and the 3 tall forwards in the same side. Reckon of Reid is fit though he could be added in due to his defensive pressure and marking abilities upfield.

5. Push McDonald up. Play him as a roaming forward like Curnow sometimes does, but more so in the N Riewoldt mould.

6. Melican is ahead for the second KPD post.

7. Reckon I like fox more in defense but looks like he may have filled in for Hayward getting subbed.

8. Forwards coach needs to work on separation in the front half and players being front and centre (Heeney and Paps do this well). Stop creating packs and going for the same balls.

9. Grundy was great in the first hit out but didn't have much presence in this game (conditions) despite winning HOs. Actually like Pete more and hopefully he can work on controlled aggression in the mould of a Nankervis or Mumford. Add some spice into our midfield.

Our full side will go hard! Sucks about Mills and Parker (especially as Mills can play back or forward as needed, with Parker being a gun mid-resting-forward that will likely now be a forward punching in the mids).

Jordan is playing better than expected and Adams won lots of clearances but hard to judge given the slippery conditions and being his first hit out. Winning clearances is good

Have zero concerns heading into next week. game will be over by half time then we’ll manage the score to our usual 100-70 result.

Nothing I saw last night was of any worry.

Reckon Ladhams is a smoky for round 1 after last night. Was a better performer than McLean, Amartey or even McDonald I felt

More than likely wont happen but he's not harming his chances

Ladhams cannot play forward. The only way I see him playing is on the bench if it is another filthy sticky night where we go a smaller forward line and he and Grundy split ruck duties.

I note McVeigh offered zilch about Hayward in the presser.

  • A precaution after a heavy knock?
  • Actually failed a concussion test?
  • Coaches dragged him as he again lost his bottle kicking for goal and was having a shocker?
  • Planned rotation as he had a lot of minutes v the Giants?

Hitting the post is losing your bottle? Srsly?

The biggest 2 roadblocks to 24 success is of course fitness (like any club) and the stale old coach who has nothing new to offer

Horse left to his own devices would probably still be running the same game plan inherited from Roos. But happily others have shifted tactics and hopefully some one stands up.

Last night did give me the heeby jeebies. Was waiting for umpteen players to be chucked behind the ball.
