Absolutely relentlessThe biggest 2 roadblocks to 24 success is of course fitness (like any club) and the stale old coach who has nothing new to offer
Fortunately next Thursday night will be nothing like last night.Looks like it's going to be another hot one next Thursday. If it's also humid resulting in slippery conditions like tonight then I wouldn't play all 3 tall forwards as they weren't effective. I would replace probably an Amartey with a small/medium who will give us more at ground level. A Fox for Amartey.
Our midfield mix will be interesting, surely Heeney is locked into a midfield role after spending most of his time in the mids during the practise matches.
Rowbottom/Heeney as the 2 primary mids with Gulden/Warner/Papley/Sheldrick? in support?

Around 21 and under a light sou east breeze at the bounce.
Yeah I was thinking that.Playing Grundy and Ladhams together against Gawn would make sense.
Agreed. We have all year to see Amartey, McLean & McDonald together, but we only face the best ruck in the comp once.Playing Grundy and Ladhams together against Gawn would make sense.
Don't give him any opportunity to go up against a backup like McLean and Amartey.Yeah I was thinking that.
On last night Ladhams in for AmarteyAgreed. We have all year to see Amartey, McLean & McDonald together, but we only face the best ruck in the comp once.
I also feel with Melbourne they really have no obvious backup who would ruck much. Van Rooyen or Schache?Agreed. We have all year to see Amartey, McLean & McDonald together, but we only face the best ruck in the comp once.
I thought Amartey was better than McLean tbh. And I also think McLean is most similar to Ladhams in terms of being a bit of a bullocking ruck type. He & Ladhams in the same team with Grundy would be way too lumbersome. On last night Ladhams in for Amartey
Just for this week is what I would do.On last night Ladhams in for Amartey
Remember McLean on the big stage , Amartey hasn't played well at that level as yet .I'd rather Party than McLean against Melbourne.
Just a bit more mobile to make May accountable.
My query - who is our "shut-down" man in a post Clamps world? If someone does get off the chain, who goes to them to quell the influence?
Who is our Clamp in a #FreeRowbottom world order?
cAN'T HAVE 2 FORWARDS IN THAT ROLEFox or Wicks? I thought fox was good in our forward line.
Wicks hasn't shown any ability to run through the mids at this stage.Fox or Wicks? I thought fox was good in our forward line.
Sorry, I couldn't concentrate on your post as I was swooning to your avatarGood to see ladhams perform well last night. Having our depth players in good form will put pressure on our seniors to play at a high level in their role.
I'd probably give first crack to amartey/mclean/McDonald since they're likely to be part of our preferred forward set up.
I don't know if it's worth bringing in ladhams to play low game time as the ruck. Happy to bring him in if Grundy is absent or if he's shown more as a forward then our other forwards.
I wonder if Warner Jr could develop in that role for a while?Wicks hasn't shown any ability to run through the mids at this stage.
And Fox doesn't really strike me as a shut-down type either.
We had Clamps, and prior to that we had George. I'm just not sure who we have now.
Last night looked like Wicks was playing a lot more attacking, pushing up around the arc and winning the ball; Fox was taking care of the lot of the off the ball stuff.cAN'T HAVE 2 FORWARDS IN THAT ROLE
No comment on the caps lockLast night looked like Wicks was playing a lot more attacking, pushing up around the arc and winning the ball; Fox was taking care of the lot of the off the ball stuff.
I think I would prefer those two (and Papley) than a resting extra mid. I just think we can't underestimate the difference pressure at ground level in the forward half makes.
