He made two really big mistakes that cost two goals tonight. Leaders don’t do that. Has got to take that out of his game.
Agree and Voss will surely have a good talking to him.

It's a tricky one though, one of the reasons he's as good as he is is he's a very instinctual player, does things in a split second many can not and doesn't think about it too much.

Still, marking that close to goal should be a pretty obvious choice to settle unless you know for a fact you're in the clear.

Voss has improved the defensive capability and structure of the team so that it can largely make up for fumbly errors and opposition momentum. A lot of players had key moments but very few played consistent strong 4 quarter football. The weaker players had a few too many goof ups - but I didn't see any layer drop their head.

Richmond were always going to be a hard game - they have too many experienced players to discount this early in the season - enough to counter their weaker players and almost enough to make up for being down on rotations.

Cripps and Harry were the standout 4 quarter players along with Hewett - but I think McGovern/Saad and Williams are developing into a potent rebound team - should get better as the season progresses. Special mention ns to Cottrell who went from useless and limp to potent and dangerous as teh game went on - his running power along with Acres is a weapon for us.

Winning form is good form - every team this time of the year plays fresh and full of vim and vigour - very important to bag as many wins as possible at the start of the season.

4 points is 4 points T@.

Bang on, umps aren’t allowed to use the big screen to make decisions

But the field ump hadn’t given the all clear so the first step would be to confirm if Charlie got a boot on it. If so the ump gives the all clear and a goal is paid. If not then the free for incorrect disposal is paid, which is what happened. Good call by the umpire imo, even though Charlie did get a scrape on the ball and it should’ve been a goal.

Poor tiger supporter on GuesSEN saying Richmond's depth is amazing cause their reserves beat ours easily, whilst Carlton will struggle. Now bleating about a 50 that just wasn't there. Poor fella needs to get back home to his bed and his quilt made of unwashed players jockstraps.

I think it's a confidence game with Kempy. I still don't think he fully believes he's a good backman and so some self doubt kicks in on occasion. He'll get there, with consistency he'll fully believe soon enough. I'm sure of it.
Bang

If they recorded hitouts to disadvantage that's another stat TDK would have won convincingly tonight.

Metres gained is a long way down the list of stats to look at when determining whether a ruckman had a good game.

From the Age write up:

But it was ruckman Tom De Koning rather than the goalscoring quartet who chimed in with the match winning effort when required with a team lifting tackle and then minutes later a goal to give the Blues the lead in the last quarter.

He won the hitouts, had 5 inside 50s (3rd best on ground - Nank zero), 5 score involvements and was critical in the key moments. A big part of the reason we won the game was TDK. And you think he was toweled up? Nank is a very good player at what he does. Extremely strong over the ball but not much polish. You have to acknowledge they're different types of players but on the whole TDK did more than enough damage.

Great to win two in a row by less than a goal with all of the team contributing. However I don't think the bye favours us as we will lose the momentum and I don't get why there is a bye after two rounds and why was last week called Round 0.
Not sure we have much momentum to lose.

I think the bye is just what we need to reset & refill.

That 50 was blatant when you looked at it from the umpires side. He clearly hit it out of TDKs hand.

Just a gut feeling that all of those who were on the Paddy Dow bandwagon last year have found their man in Carroll. Only two games but is giving us everything everyone hoped Dow would have.

The way he's playing he'll be extremely difficult to dislodge from his place in the 22(23).

In a midfield that includes similar types in Cripps, Cerra, Hewett and Kennedy ... for him to get 20 disposals at 70% efficiency and 4 clearances. They are handy stats for a guy playing his 8th game. Not world beating stats but Dow's best was 24 disposals in 73 games. The signs are good.

Thinking a few players stroll into the side against North, some strongly in contention

Weitering, Martin, Elijah, Motlop, Walsh, Marchbank
Bring them all to me…

When do we get to talk about the all-time great ruckman Marlon Pickett towelling up TDK in the middle..? 🤣

I mean, he got 0 hitouts, so obviously he has an advantage when the ball hits the ground.

Yep.. and no brain. Run the clock down 30 more seconds and hold basically a 3 goal lead. Not smart at all.
He will learn from that.

I was litterally thinking earlier in the game when he took a mark near the 50. You could see he half thought about turning and going without really knowing what was in front of him. But he stopped and went back.

Couple of years ago he would wheel and go far too often. He's learnt from that and matured.

Tonight will be a harsh reminder.
