Pretty happy with that. We were a 5 goal better side. Yes they had injuries but had Charlie or Boyd kicked their goals we would have put them to the sword. But we shut the game down when they scored and didn’t take advantage of their lack of legs.

Think we only had 6 good players. So much to work on.

We are getting a very damaging transition game going. It’s very exciting.

Tigers still have plenty of experience and if they can keep them healthy they will surprise some good sides

Our form is somewhat like the start of last year, but with a few added benefits

Moving the ball with more speed, but think we have started too corridor focused, when at times we have open space/players a little wider

Like early last year, we have stepped too far from our contested/clearance game, but our rebound attack and scores from turnovers looks better

Our back arc actually looks like our best area, despite the simple errors of a couple of players

Our mids as a whole look like they are on their heels far too often and while I understand we need another marking option forward, surprised Kennedy has been used sparingly in the middle

Forwards are by far our worst performed line if you remove our tall targets. Martin, Motlop and Elijah will certainly lift the xfactor

Still think Pitto will play a role when fit, especially against ruckmen like Nankervis

But, here we are 2-0 with 2 games to come against sides we should beat

In a midfield that includes similar types in Cripps, Cerra, Hewett and Kennedy ... for him to get 20 disposals at 70% efficiency and 4 clearances. They are handy stats for a guy playing his 8th game. Not world beating stats but Dow's best was 24 disposals in 73 games. The signs are good.

What I like is that he plays almost like a veteran when he has pill in hand. He doesn't try and over use the ball - stays within his limits, has his head and eyes up and is constantly looking for the best option. Some of those disposals when he was under the pump were fantastic. Modern footy demands mids who can get the ball in the contest and/or can get rid of it when they're being harrassed and tackled. It's a real string to his game that I didn't know was there. His massive summer paying dividends.

Did a bit too much when he opted not to have the shot from 50 on the run and gave it up. A few players were a bit tentative and thinking they had more time than they did tonight.

We won despite our best efforts to throw that one away.

Richmond are a bottom 6 team and that was a very poor effort by us.

They didn't get out of practice game gear last week. They clearly set themselves up for this week like it was a grand final.

Conversely, we had to kill ourselves for the 4 points last week and very much treated the game as though it was a final.

Should we really be surprised that Richmond brought their best tonight?

I said it elsewhere during the week. They'll finish bottom 6 but with their list constitution they're going to be a team that wins games they have no right to but they're also going to lose games they should win. It wouldn't surprise me if they got pantsed in round 5 by the Eagles.

Those are some learnable moments and he'll have plenty more throughout the season. But as long as he can perform like he has then he'll keep winning opportunity.

We are now a team that can win when our game is not on!

That is a far cry from needing everything to go right just to get a chance to beat our opponent.

Plenty of enjoyment for us to look forward to.

Our game just never kicked in. It was fits and starts all night long. I haven't seen us win for a long time without needing a dominant scoreboard quarter to get there.

They still had 14 premiership players in the side. They are on the decline but they haven't bottomed out yet and are still capable of big games, especially against old enemies.

They beat the Swans, Saints, Giants in Sydney, Crows in Adelaide, Cats and pushed Collingwood and Melbourne. They're not exactly dogshit yet.

This is what people are probably not forgetting, but it's something they want so much - for Richmond to suck. They're not at their flag winning best, but they are still capable of being a dangerous side.

We certainly didn't get the rub of the green... but we didn't do ourselves many favours tonight either...

I like Kemp, but it was a bad day at the office for him.

Young wasn't too bad but defensively we were off.

Only really felt like we were running over them at the first half of the last quarter (thanks mostly to TDK stepping up). It's cliche but momentum is huge in the modern game. Charlie fluffs up after marking in the goal square and it took the wind out of our sails and gave them hope. Could just feel the momentum turn from that point and they are experienced enough to capitalise on that.

If I am concerned, what I am concerned about is Tom De Konning.

Nankervis - to be honest, every single Richmond ruck - treated him with utter contempt tonight. He didn't just assume the space, he stood there and invited Tom to do whatever he wanted. In his position, his ribs were available, his head was available, his knees and groin were available; what does Tom do? Absolutely ******* nothing. He doesn't try and force Nank to do anything different; Nankervis just ******* set up under the ball and ******* grabbed it out of the ruck.

To say that the rule change which removes HTB as an option in that situation is dumb is missing the point. Despite the goal he kicked and his last 10 minutes, Tom got smashed tonight by his refusal to get dirty. He wants the clean tap, the massive leap, the globetrotters play, but there's more to rucking than just tapping the ball.

You need to be willing to hurt your opponent some. At the moment, Tom's a labrador when we need a rottweiler.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but this post is objectively one of the worst I've ever read.

Big O and Nank's hitout average was 4th and 5th in the league last year. TDK beat Nank for hitouts tonight and was almost level with O last week. He beat Oscar for hitout to advantage % last week too. That's a pretty solid starting point.

He would normally have nailed that first set shot and would have had 2 goals to go with it but the goal he did kick gave us the lead. Huge pressure. What a player. Named in the best in most independent reviews I've read and you're ranting about his game? Maybe take another look at the game / stats / anything.

Good sides need to win ugly sometimes

Saad, Boyd, Newman, Gov especially, huge

Crippa, Harry, tough games

Fine line between solid role players and passengers, we had a few tonight
I don't know what to make of that suffice to say that the whole theory of 'the role player that the coach loves' (amongst other ways of putting it) is overrated.

I know there's a few more on lists these days, given that I don't think the player base has grown enough to fill an expanded competition, but how many can you have in a successful side? How many did we have in 95, not in terms of their reputation but in terms of their output that year?

We have depth in terms of players who can play at senior level but not in terms of players who can impact games, at least not yet.

He wasn’t robbed a goal. He should’ve been pinged for holding the ball. It’s this sort of dumb s**t that results in you being like Nick Riewoldt with no flags at the end of your career as opposed to Tom Hawkins with 3 flags.
How odd. Had a bunch of Carlton-hating mates who thought it was a goal too.

Wouldn’t mind the odd 10 goal premiership 3rd quarter now and again though…just saying.

The tiggies autopsy page is so funny, the only reason they lost is the umpires!!

Every post is about it, they have the most deranged posters known to man.

I’m loving their mental dissonance!!!!

Sitting behind two nuffy tiger fans tonight. Both agreed that Gibcus just needed a “jab” and should be back out there. Back in their day, that was when footballers were tough apparently.

All things could be true.

He was robbed a goal if it hit his boot, looks like the ball may have deviated. Unsure.

He was pinged for holding the ball. We didn’t get the behind. Great umpiring.

He should’ve understood the moment, taken his 30 seconds and put us a certain 6 points ahead. Better to learn now than at the end of the season when it matters.
