I didn't watch their game on the weekend so can someone tell me why people seem to be so high on North? I'm reading about how they looked good on the weekend, and looked exciting etc. but the score tells me they lost by 40 points and giants had 20 more scoring shots than them.

I rate anyone as a chance against us because of our injury list atm, but did North really look that good in a game they were outscored in so heavily?
I watched the game. They were more competitive than last year and their midfield showed that it can win the ball against a very good midfield.
But GWS were the far superior side. Toby Green had basically no real influence on the game Hogan should have kicked 10. There backs are still developing.
Clarkson said in his post match press a that there was an obvious class difference between the 2 sides.
2 factors here. VIC media wanting to talk up a VIC team and PTSD from Freo fans from the 1 point loss last year at home.
If we play like we did on Sunday we will smash them.

I actually don't hate the idea of Banfield down back against the smaller North forwards. At the very least a stint down back will give him some experience he can use as a defensive forward, which I think is his best position. We haven't had a proper defensive forward since Mayne
He was roaming high half back at times.
He’s been really positive in transition. Solid kick too.

Just realised the game is on at 1045, what a crap time. Counts me out of watching live.
I vaguely remember a few years ago reading someone's analysis of WA teams playing morning games our time and the association with sluggish starts/losses. Does that still hold?
North are the type of side you should beat with your eyes half shut while having a snooze.

North are exactly as you'd expect. Good midfield with enough talent to at least try to run two ways but will tire drastically as the year goes on. Terrible structures because it's literally a team of kids basically. Horrible backline that isnt helped because the kids cant structure themselves on transition
The Roos were kept in it by GWS's wastefulness at times. TBF Norf showed some capacity to slingshot and capitalise on turnovers in defence. Individual brilliance from the few more than across the board though.

Smash the roos with time for an afternoon beverage with the wife and a walk around the river. Play with the kids, read them some stories, listen to their laughter, romance the wife, clean the kitchen, read a book while watching bigfooty increasingly join the optimism thread. 10:45am start... can't wait!

Actually i am going the Swans v Essendon game this saturday night at SCG.

Might get into Surry Hills early around lunchtime and watch it at the pub. I assume Kelli underwood will be part of this game on fox footy. Its the type of match they hand there Z-Grade commentary team to call. So i wont have to listen to it.

Yep. Definitely some data out there re sporting teams travelling West to East and across timezones having negatively impacted results. Especially with daylights savings. In effect it's jetlag.

Might try to mitigate it with travelling across early (but this can come with other downsides, such as players regular routines disrupted with having to fill in large chunks of free time out of home etc).

Having coached for a number of years, I've definitely seen differences/patterns of team performance across gametime slots.

It's a concern to me that so much of our scoring came from clearance in the Brisbane game. I hope that is partly early season rust as we need to improve our turnover scoring if we want to be serious this year.
I wouldn't worry. JLo literally said scoring from turnover is a part of his gameday philosophy.

Thanks, makes sense. I assume therefore the WA clubs request not having this timeslot, but get ignored. Love the AFL

Going to marvel partly to avoid any chance of having my eardrums bleed if Kelli underwood is indeed commentating on it!
