It'll probably come to nothing, but i think he should be the Saints Rookie for the year.

“Allowed” is a pretty elastic concept here. It’s a made up thing that we created out of the blue a year ago, we can do whatever we want.

But I reckon if we want to continue having that as a Sandy selling point then nah, it shouldn’t be them.

I’m confused as what is the real difference between a reserves team and an aligned team. For example Jake Batchelor has been appointed coach of Richmond’s VFL team. He will have Richmond AFL and VFL listed players in his team. He will also be part of Richmond’s broader coaching group. How do they recruit their VFL players? Do Richmond VFL players get an opportunity to play for Richmond Reserves every week or are they pushed out of the team when an AFL listed player comes back to the Reserves for whatever reason. To me Jake Batchelors job is the same as it was at Sandy.

What do we gain then by moving to a fully fledged reserves team particularly when St Kilda seems to be pulling the strings anyway

In my opinion, being able to train and play at the same facility as the rest of the club is a big thing. TBBO is very small and old, and that's beside the fact that they're pretty disassociated at the moment from the AFL team.

TBBO is narrower for sure but its only a few meters shorter then Moorabbin at 157 vs 160. The facilities there arent that bad either.

The AFL has stated it would like to run it's own reserve comp so all clubs get a fairer competition all clubs will play who the AFL side is playing during that round and no byes.

At present the VFL comp doesn't allow any continuity

That move by the AFL cant come soon enough for our club IMO!

I dont think the club realise the marketing/ticketing opportunities they miss out on by just having the lads running around in those ridiculous Zebras colours. Playing on an often wind swept TBBO, where there is very limited parking. The amount of games this season when there was hardly a score at one end and blokes kicking bombs at the other was park footy stuff.

I understand Moorabbin also gets windy and affected by the elements, but at least the ground and environs look like they belong to a professional football organisation.

As I said in another post I attended a lot of the St Kilda training sessions, both pre season and in season and in most cases there was, at least one Sandy player and sometimes up to 4, training with the main group. They would sit out match sim but they could still observe. So there are efforts being made to bring the squads together but as yet it hasn’t borne any fruit.

Sorry, by small I was referring to the facilities. They aren't terrible, but they are well bellow AFL standard, which is where a permanent relocation to RSEA would do wonders.

As I said in another post I attended a lot of the St Kilda training sessions, both pre season and in season and in most cases there was, at least one Sandy player and sometimes up to 4, training with the main group. They would sit out match sim but they could still observe. So there are efforts being made to bring the squads together but as yet it hasn’t borne any fruit.

During in-season, and pre-season particularly, there are up to 10 Sandy players (the top few) participating in training with the Saints. Most of it is due to low numbers and being able to get proper 22 vs 22 match sim, not necessarily to "bring the squads together".
